Does anyone own a wiki name, or have plans for a wiki site?

A wiki (pronounced [wɪkiː], [wiːkiː] or [viːkiː]; see Pronunciation below) is a web application that allows users to add content, as on an Internet forum, but also allows anyone to edit the content. Wiki also refers to the collaborative software used to create such a website (see Wiki software).

Wiki (with an upper case 'W') and WikiWikiWeb are both used to refer specifically to the Portland Pattern Repository, the first wiki ever created. A lower-case 'w' for 'wiki' is generally used by savvy wiki proponents. The name was based on the Hawaiian term wiki wiki, meaning "quick" or "informal." It is used commonly in Hawaii as part of its rich "pidgin English"—the creole language of the islands.

I downloaded Wiki and started experimenting with it a while back. I think it has some great potential. I just didn't like the template and didn't take the time to make a template for it that I liked. If you fooled around with it enough, I think you could turn each of your domains into a real website which gets content added by the masses and shows Google Ads. It would be a nightmare to monitor, but could prove extremely profitable as the traffic rolled in from search engines.

Although I've used and enjoyed Wikipedia for some time, I have only recently given any thought to an actual site, and picked up a few "wiki" names w/ the idea of doing a niche or specialty wiki ie Recipeswiki.com, Datingwiki.com, Carswiki.com. I also picked up wikiSticky.com, because I like the ring to it, and intuitively felt that something could be done w/ it, but haven't quite figured out what that would be, just yet.

Heck, I was born in LA, lived there most of my life, and think that someone should have jumped on that one as LAX is the common term used by locals for LA's major airport. LAXwifi would be great for hotspots, in and around the airport, (ie hotel conference rooms).

I am using Pmwki on a new site - but as CMS - its easy skin and to add new pages. It is not open to public editing - I'd don't have the time to control the inevitable spam or 'hacking' - which has to be worse than WordPress comment spam.

I picked these up on drop because of the Island tie-in, then found out about the actual Wiki usage you're talking about. No plans, just thought they were cool. Would be interested in selling if someone has a plan... :wave:

I just pulled this up from the archives because I'm still asking the same question am interested in knowing if there are any new trends and what the progress has been over the past year.

I recently made a modest sale of datingwiki.com on Sedo- I accepted the offer and didn't negotiate because I haven't seen much sales activity and Wikipedia dominates the search listings, hands down. Today, "wiki"has 934,000,000 Google and is searched over over 3,000 /da on WT. I read an article indicating that several companies ie Disney are using Wikis to facilitate group projects.

I had a two of wiki-based sites. However, the free wikipedia code is open for abuse in its default config. My sites quickly got defaced with multiple viagra ads and similar. Wikis can be configured to discourage spam, but that sort of defeats the idea of a wiki (quick and informal), and would work only if you already have a group of dedicated editors willing to add content for free. Wikipedia recently (last year, methinks) moved from the default open config to the restricted config.

I own Wickey.com, a plan on Wiki and Mickey. It is going to be a Disney wiki when I get the time. Any suggestions on software would be appreciated. I had started out with MediaWiki, but it is tough to skin.

I have one, wikisite.ws, from my domainer's view, it sound another alternative usage of .ws, similar like website.ws.

in other way, the potential usage of this site is allow members to register their own wiki site as sub-domain, does anyone know what wiki package have this function? pls tell me if u know that...tks in advance.
