Hello everyone! First post here. So… I had sort of a psychic dream in mid November and have been ringing up .mobi domains ever since. Joined this forum and have been observing and learning. Thanks to all for your many insights! Great thoughts and great fun! Now have several names – some good, some not so good and, in hindsight, some definite crapola. Will post some of my names soon for laughter, comments, development ideas, collaboration and possible sales. Anyway, I feel .mobi will be fine. Of course, a .mobi default would sure make things interesting. Also, (psychic vision here) we should not underestimate the upcoming power of VOICE RECOGNITION in relation to SEARCH. Would eliminate the need to type and could possibly minimize or even negate the emphasis upon short keyword based SEO. Imagine saying a 2, 3 or 4 (key) word phrase and tada… you go to the site! It is definitely coming and will be most welcomed! Then some of our less than stellar names might be much enhanced! And come on now… Mobi Psychic Dream?!! Hahaha, Ouch…my tongue, my cheek! Later…….

MobileVoiceControl’s service allows users to press one-button on their mobile phone and simply speak their request, eliminating the need to fumble with tiny keypads or navigate complex menus to perform simple tasks. Consumers can easily dictate and send email or text messages, create calendar entries, dial a contact, and search the Web for business listings, news, weather, stock quotes, sport scores and more.
the above is from dragon naturally speaking's press release of january 3, 2007 here: http://www.nuance.com/news/pressreleases/2007/20070103_mobilevoicecontrol.asp

it looks like laon.mobi won't exactly be selling for 300k though i am sure there will be some funny typos especially in noisy environments

seriously this could really change the playing field if it works .. go mobi

I'm sure it will work but each carrier will have their own flavor. I remember my very first cell phone, it was one of those bricks larger than a desk stapler with a talk time of 45 minutes (and it felt so cool too B-)). Well, back then they had a voice activated phone book system offered by the carrier. I would press a few keys and then I would say "call one" or something like that and it would dial my preprogrammed number. It had nothing to do with the phone, it was on the carriers end but the service vanished one day. I wish I had that back to this day.

Thanks all for the welcome. There seems to have been a re-empowered interest in voice search and development in general over the past several days. Many new articles and good posts regarding same. This is a fun time to be involved with the early, evolving stages of the mobile internet. The momentum appears to be growing at a slightly more feverish pace. Go Developers, Go!!! It is fun to witness as we make plans accordingly, isn't it? Here is bit more info:
