Virus and Malware question

On one of my computers I cant connect to any Anti-Virus sites at all.
When I try to connect it says cannot find server.

It started when I thought I was doing a search on google But I guess I was on a Malware site? When I clicked any link in the search results they actually went to: go.google.com

Here is my problem: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6132_102-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=305856&messageID=2841046

I downloaded MalWareBytes but it will not run at all.

Anyone had this happen before? How did you get it fixed?

Thanks
deet

You've definately picked up a nasty little bug. I haven't encountered the one that you currently have (*knock on wood) but I've had a few.

I usually go to one of three sites when this happens, BleepingComputer, CastleCops or WhatTheTech.

You'll need to download the HijackThis free program and post the log in a thread that you start and someone will come along and help you remove the infection.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

If malwarebytes is not working, try this:

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices.

Scroll down to โ€œNon-plug and Play Driversโ€ and click the plus icon to open those drivers.

Then search for โ€œTDSSserv.sysโ€

Right click on it, and select โ€œDisableโ€

Note: If you select Uninstall, it will install itself again when you reboot the system, so DONโ€™T select Uninstall.

Restart your pc.

You can now update your Antirus/Malware/Rootkit softwares and the go.google rubbish will stop.

In simple terms, TDSSserv.sys is a service/server redirecting all software updates to 127.0.0.1 (your own computer) so they wonโ€™t update

Found this somewhere(Credit goes to the original poster)

Let me know

Cheers

I would also suggest using a different computer and going to free.grisoft.com (or another Anti-Virus website), download the program AND the full updates onto a USB drive. Then you can install and update the program using your memory stick.

After that, boot into Safe Mode and run a scan. Safe Mode scans are typically more successful than scans done in regular mode.

Also, the thing about HijackThis is a good advice. You can post the log here, and I'd be willing to go through it and let you know what you need to get rid of.

Good luck,
David

LiquidCherry, Thank you very much this worked 100% - Very Greatful!

Updated both Avast and MalWareBytes and both found the virus.

So much for me using McAfee.. This has taken up my entire day. ;)

Wish I would have asked this question about 6 hours ago!

My daughter installed this on my computer, it came from a popup or advert on an arcade site she plays on. It was one that said you have x amount of viruses/spyware, etc.. on your computer. She clicked cancel and it installed it, she then allowed it to get past the firewall.

Personally I don't rate McAfee much as a virus checker, but then I did work for them and with the development team a while back.
