Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship

Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

What are your thoughts on

VROptique / com

Seems to be a common term in the eyewear industry.

First off... Everyone, please "gimme some sugar" and an "attaboy!" (Or at least a "like"...;)) I wasn't really paying attention, but suddenly I got a notification that I've hit 1000 posts today... Whoo hoo! (BTW, I first got in on the VR thread at page 17, way back in Feb / 2015! My how time flies!!!)

(PS - For those wondering why it took me over a decade to get to 1000 posts when I joined back in 2006, I would note that I spent almost ALL my time at the "other" domain site until they closed down a couple years ago... I can assure you I will NEVER return to that horror-show - I'm an NPer for life! ;))

Now, on to business...

Another post noted yet another cryptocurrency play in Virtual reality...

http://vibehub.io/

With all the heat on Crypto names and the whole coin/token thing, I'm wondering if it might be a good time to auction VRtokens / com? I noted a quite a few "token/tokens" kw sales in August and I think the iron may be hot to strike... Any opinions from you guys heavily involved in Crypto? (Honestly, it's really not my thing, although I have dabbled on occasion...)

If you want my honest opinion:

Each site and service has their own token or coin, so the only VRTokens dot com would be either a site about VR companies with their own tokens or a company named VRTokens, which is highly unlikely in either case, because there are not enough VR companies using tokens to make a site dedicated to the subject and I am not sure what kind of company would name them self "VR Tokens". And even if there were a company like that they would probably prefer the singular.

Not every VR+Keyword combination has value, but you may want to keep it just in case, because who knows. Again, this is just my honest take on this.

Decentraland launched a MANAToken ICO so I regged that in dot com and dot org. Plus the name of the currency + casino, because they are launching casinos inside of Decentraland. But I am still not sure of if these domains have any value though.

Vibhub looks more like like a dark, hiphop themed, strip club than it does a marketplace. No one will take them seriously.. They have no idea what they are doing. Complete failure....

Although the name is long, I think there is a product that is called exactly like this:

mobilevrglasses - com

Hand reg.

Main stream media article -- so it shouldn't be believed -- but I thought I'd post it anyway,

Is virtual reality the next 3D TV? Like VR, it was hyped, pricey and consumers didn't care

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech...ed-pricey-and-consumers-didnt-care/616961001/

The upshot: prices have been cut, demand has weakened and analyst forecasts slashed.

Still, SuperData Research predicts consumer revenues for the virtual reality market will reach $28.3 billion in 2020, up from $1.8 billion in 2016.

Adds Microsoft's Kipman: “I think people over-predicted how fast consumer (VR) was going to take off. But I think the pendulum is swinging the other way, under-predicting how fast it is going to become mainstream.

VR is surely getting a lot of attention (probably media's favorite tech this year):
Every September 2017 VR Game Release Date
Rift Summer Sale Drives Record Gains, Highest Steam Market Share Yet

Thanks. Now back to the positive news. VR is here to stay. It's the early days, so of course it will have it's ups and downs. This was the greatest year for VR and it will get better when FB and Google release their stand alone headsets. FB is planning one for $200. That is well within range of the average consumer, with no PC to to buy and hopefully will include controller(s)...

Then mass VR adaption begins...

Yhea...about that, I don't think that will happen within next 2-3 years. #staypositive

I'm sorry, but did I somehow give you the impression that I was saying it would tomorrow? :-D

It will pick up next year as it has this year and the year before. Every year brings awareness and that drives adaption and motivation for devs to create more content. Viral VR content isn't hear yet, but when it comes, people will feel left out if they don't have a VR headset to experience it. We can't say it'll happen tomorrow, but it *could* happen soon. The future is full of surprises...some negative and some positive. Look how much VR spiked when FB lowered the price of their Oculus this year. And now they are planning this (below). Others will follow.

By the way. I kinda find it hard to believe that Apple would be fine being left completely out of the VR race when it comes to headsets. They have some VR related patents for headsets, so I wouldn't be surprised if this new phone they've got coming is ramped for not just AR but also a mobile VR headset.

I am not counting on it (not holding my breath), but again, it wouldn't surprise me...

Same here! Lets hope the "and one more thing" moment at the end is something very different.

You got any offer for it
I don't remember in receiving any, however I'm not really interested in selling in next 2 years (only enough to get by with renewal fees).

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-plan-200-wireless-oculus-vr-headset-for-2018

What really stood out to me in the Bloomberg article was not only the "standalone" configuration, and the lower price, but also the line that notes: "Facebook has said it’s also working on a prototype device code-named Santa Cruz that’s basically a wireless Rift, with the full power of the original device sans PC." This presages a future standalone device with stellar performance, not some cheaper, but crappier "compromise" headset.

However, IMHO, "price and device" still only represent two legs of the VR success chair - They also have to get VR to be truly "social," so they can leverage Facebook's 2-Billion-plus audience, and also create an ecosystem to monetize VR - Only after we have all 4 legs will VR really fly! (This said, a cheap, high-quality, standalone device is a great place to start... When I get aboard a flight and see 15-25% of the passengers donning their standalone headsets, I'll know we have finally arrived! ;))

This is what makes me believe VR is absolutely here to stay. Never had any doubts. But when the young billionaire club are throwing this kind of money and innovation behind it (because it's not cheap to do this) it's hard to ignore. And it's not just the money. 1 Billion is a lot... 2 billion-plus audience sphere of influence is absolutely immense. But as you said, inexpensive and social and wow... 2 billion zombies! :D

22 finalists nominated at Venice Film Festival in VR section

Last year China saw explosive growth in the VR sector, but by the end of the year there had been talks in the industry saying that the sector had “frozen.” However, figures show that with more major players entering the sector, the country’s VR industry is expected to expand more than fourfold in 2017

I think Facebook will go all in, guns blazin' for the next headset. They got beaten on the finnish line by a superior Vive the first time around. I think they will do whatever it takes for that not to happen again.
