Can someone please appraise this for me? This is my first purchase of a .cn name and I'm already getting offers that I'm not sure what to do with

Well with over 1.2 billion people all looking to own the latest gadgets, I don't think you can go wrong with this one.

If you want to sell it you can get contact information of hundreds of Chinese manufacturers and distributors at Alibaba.com. Many of these companies rely on sites like Alibaba and Made-In-China, but with Google making giant strides in China many will be looking for their own web addresses.

Have you got VideoCameras.cn as well?

Good Luck

No, I don't currently own that. I was wary to invest in .cn's but I took note that VideoCamera.com sold for about 750K, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. With expensive registration though (ranging from $25-50 a pop) I won't be buying up names too often. I'm still not sure what kind of value an English .cn has at this point in time or if its even worth what I paid for it. But I do have faith in the internet in China, because like you said they are making big strides and I would assume VideoCamera.cn is a rather brandable name! If you could offer me any more advice, I would appreciate it - thanks!

The point is that China has been manufacturing goods since way before the internet. Back then, they had to depend on Export Houses and Brokers in Hong Kong and Singapore to get their goods out. This was very profitable for the 'MiddleMan' hence Hong Kong and Singapores wealth and success.

With the advent of the internet, companies like Alibaba were created to act as the middleman. The Chinese founder of Alibaba is now the third richest man in China, and I guess that's pretty rich, proving that the middleman still makes the best profit.

With the opening of trade and internet in China, plus the increase in Chinese Businessmen learning English, and the realization that you can skip the middleman and make more profit, Chinese Manufactureres will become the biggest buyers of relevant English .com and .cn domains in the future.

I also believe that English terms on .cn will be great because if, for example, a German Importer of Video Cameras, is looking for a cheap source, direct from the factory, why look at VideoCamera.com or .hk/sg/jp etc??? You know that going strait to VideoCamera.cn is more likely to take you to the cheapest source.

I believe in this more than anything else predicted for the Domain Industry, and that is why I hold onto many 'Brandable' domains despite their lack of traffic. For example I have PandaExport.com that I am confident will one day recieve a $xxx, xxx offer from a Chinese Exporter who sees the benefit of such a memorable/relevant Brand Name.

I spent time teaching English in Thailand and The Far East during the mid 80's and then watched a country of only 50 million make huge strides during the 90's, due mainly to the fact that Thais had embraced the English language to succeed in international business. What does this mean when 1 billion Chinese can make business over the internet in English???

VideoCamera.cn is a great domain and well worth the registration renewals while you wait for a buyer.

Remember a Video Camera is still a Video Camera despite the change from film to digital and even though technology is moving Video Cameras onto cell phones they are still Video Cameras. I predict that within 10 years there will be at least 1/2 a billion Chinese with a Video Camera on their cell phone.

Can you park your .cn domains with Sedo etc? If so what is traffic and parking revenue like?

Good Luck.

Thanks for all your advice, it is greatly appreciated. I have actually had it parked with Sedo for little over a month, but it gets very little traffic. Do you think I should actively market it, develop it into a site, or just hold onto it until it has some value?

You will find on Alibaba there is a lot of contact information available however many Chinese manufacturers still don't have web sites but this will change, I would hold onto it for a while but also look for Chinese Import/Export Agents in HongKong who may be interested.

I agree with Dominic, generally you are seeing a combination of pinyin, idn but predominately english from the various .cn extensions- you need to look outwards for business not inwards, unless specifically targetting the local market - english is still the international language - it's the way to go.

A high $xxx to low $xxxx value, name only JMO
