Google Webmaster Central posted an interesting video on duplicate content and multiple site issues. The video highlights:
- duplicate content penalization is a myth (except for "intent to manipulate rankings" content)
- importance of canonical urls (non-ww, www, /index.htm-php - usually pick www as your canonical url). Either use 301 or canonical rel tag.
- multiple domains are ok (.com, co.uk etc for same site but for different location/language) but Google will try to show best results as per search query.
