Received an email from godaddy saying: "On July 1, 2010, VeriSign®, the registry for .COM and .NET, will increase prices - .COM will go up 7 percent and .NET by 10 percent. The increase will be passed to registrars like Go Daddy and then, unfortunately, to consumers like you. As of July 1, we will be forced to raise registration and renewal prices for these two popular top-level domains."

How much do you think godaddy will increase the price? (really 7% increase?)

:hi:

Who knows what GoDaddy will do?

Regular price currently for a .COM registration at GoDaddy is:
$10.69 plus 18 cents ICANN fee = $10.87

Is there really any reason for GoDaddy to raise that fee?

.ORG may increase their fee, currently at $6.75, by up to 10%.

Public Interest Registry (PIR) probably won't go for the max, but rather raise it to be similar to that of VeriSign's new price of $7.34. If I had to guess, I'd say .ORG goes to $7.25. Plan for it!

If a .ORG price increase does happen this year, PIR will likely announce it by May-15th. Reason is they must give at least 6 months advance notice; have increased pricing around November in the past.

It's very telling all the press .ORG is putting out about implementing DNSSEC, which is nice, but also a way for them to "justify" a price increase. Hopefully, I'm just being too cynical, but PIR has shown in the past they'll steeply raise prices if so feel desire despite being a "non-profit" for the internet "community".

For once, I'd like to see a major gTLD registry officially (not talking temporary, limited promo stuff) reduce its registry pricing. I've yet to see it happen, but hey, if PIR is reading here - a price decrease would be great PR, and help solidify .ORG as innovative and in tune with the internet community ... it's fun to dream of what could be. Back to reality ... plan for an .ORG increase.

I suppose if you would like to make sure if they will do that or not you need to contact them directly only.
