I have been dabbling buying auction and expired domains for the last few weeks and have some questions concerning the backlink profile of prospective domains.

1.) MajesticSeo, SemRush, and SeoMoz Site Explorer often give a huge variance in the number of back links. Sometimes. Over 10 to 1 difference. Which tool if any should be considered to most accurate for giving the quantity of back links?

2.) Link Rot As potentials domains' backlinks are spot checked; the following was noticed:

The back linking domain was nonexistent.

The back linking domain was existent but the link itself is nonexistent.

Should all backlinks be verified before buying a domain? If yes what is the best way to do that efficiently? It could become a real time sink checking 1000's of back links at a time.
