    I pre-registered a few domains under a new (soon to be released) TLD.
    For the sake of this example let's just use .example

    The prices came out yesterday and I saw that there were two prices within the same extension:

    word.example = $109 to pre-order
    other.example = $49 to pre-order

    Why is this? Are certain words automatically set to cost more? Do they have a list of words they deem "premium" across the board?

    The strange thing is, both are premium (real and short words that make sense with the extention word) ...yet the cheaper one is just 2 letters long!

    Also, if I pre-order and pay this price, and the registrar manages to grab that domain for me... that's all I pay, correct? I wont be charge on top of this $109 or $49, right?

    Its a way they can get their money back for spending so much $$$ on registering that ngtld
    I would hope the register refunds you the money back. haha

    I think you misread what I wrote there: "and the registrar manages to grab that domain for me"

    Why would I get my money back if they actually managed to obtain the desired domain for me?
    (It's clear I will get a refund if said registrar failed in getting me the domain. I'm just unclear on how much I pay if I do end up getting the domain. The stated pre-reg price? Or pre-reg price + another reg price? .... I'm thinking it's just the pre-reg price listed.)
