Value your domain

Most people don’t realize the true value of a domain, if you consider every domain that is worth a reg. fee should be considered a good purchase. Most domains this days cost about $6 USD to register, having that in mind lets say you pay your domain $8 USD.

Now if you calculate that 1yr that you reg. domain name for has 365 days means that your domain costs you only $0.02 cents a day. Most of parking programs pay minimum of $0.03 cents a click even thou there are few that go under that minimal price and also there are click that are worth $5 USD and even $30 USD clicks. Most reg. fee domains can manage to make at least 1 click every few days so in a long run if you don’t make money of domain you will only lose about $1 to $2 a year. As we all know domain industry is in power drive and no one knows when it will slow down, every domain purchased is a potential gold mine in a long run. As internet grows and more business wants to go online with their merchandise every domain goes up in value. If considered that in 15 to 20 years probably more then 70% of world population will have their own computer and access to internet domain names will increase in value by 600% if not more.

So lets do some more math and statistics, if you lose on ever one of your domain names 2$ every year that means that in 10 yr period you lost only $20. Considering that you bought a domain that is at least worth a reg. fee at this time in 10yr you will be able to sell it for minimal price of 50$ USD. Now some people will say that is too much work and time to make only 30$ profit but you must think that you didn’t do any hard work at all to achieve that minimal profit. Now if you have few dollars to play around and purchase a large amount of domains for example 1,000 or more you will make a minimal profit of $30,000USD in 10 year period. As we all know every domain has a different value and it can’t be known, to one person example: “MyTopDomain can be considered a ref. fee domain and to someone it could be $10,000 you just never know. From my personal experience I have reg. domain that I tried to sell for a minimal price of 30$ and I had no success, I finally gave up and put it a side with in 6 months from my registration I sold that same domain for high $XXX. I made on that one sale more then 100x the reg. fee that I have paid for so what we talked about earlier in this article with in 10 years from your reg. fee someone will come around to buy that domain from you. Domain industry is very rewording for minimal amount of time put into it. Little bit off topic some people like to play stock market and I have personally have tried that as well and it’s bad. It’s 50/50 if you will make money or lose on every purchase, even the well established companies with high returns can go broke and you lose all your money. Most of those stocks are also very expensive, so buy good domain names you won’t lose money ever.

There are many that don't. Believe me!

Quoted for Truth. Nice post, but the statement that most regfee names get at least a click every few days is manifestly not true. At least, I have 15 domains on Sedo, and I've only gotten 2 clicks out of 66 views over a month-and-a-half period.

Or am I missing something here? Because if you know of a way to get people to click twice a day on each one of my parked domains, I'll be happy to hear it (as that'd be $3 a day, letting me register a new domain for free every 3 days).

Sincerely,
George

In general if you select your domains wisely this math is viable.

But....

This is IMO wrong math. Shure it is not hard work, but its risky invest.

I did over the years some controlling work on me and my portfolio,
and the overall conclusion is that a domain sold under 100$ is a loss.

But i spend much, really much time just to check if some domain can be registered, if it has some potential etc. The management of portfolio of 1000 domains is also time factor - renewing them, pointing them to parking program, moving them to another... etc. That's not as cheap as you show it. :)

Agreed. The Quest for the Holy End Buyer alone has cost me the whole of Saturday already and is likely to consume the rest of my weekend, too. And, like Xrememst pointed out, managing 1000 domains can be quite painful.

Im considering registering my domain names that I think might shoot up in price for 10 years or so, at least I know that I have them if I ever do decide to advertise them for sale.

Get the domains cheap(er) now whilst you can!

So many countries are constantly improoving their availability of internet connections so I don't think, if the internet it going to drop, it aint' gunna be any time soon!

I think you summed up my feelings jeet. The more I acquire domains with the intention of later selling them and begin earning some revenue the more inclined I am coming to point of wanting to hold them rather than sell them.

there are many domains that are bought with the intent to sell or develop that are based on predicted technology that might/will be used in the future.
these are domains based on research etc... that do not get traffic at all today, but might get lots in the future.
your method simply does not work for such domains.
also, there are many good domains (excellent keywords) with ccTLDs that get 0 views, so here again, your methodoly does not apply.

I like your post.
One risk is the future is hard to predict (like the stock market). For example if new search technology weighs keywords more importantly, then that reduces the value of the domain name; or if there is a new setup to allow people having any extension they want, then that will reduce .com values in the future etc.

Domain names are definitely an investment. I only have 4 domains parked and some don't even get one click a day, but my casino domain makes up for this at 80 cents a click and sometimes higher too.
