Value of Overture Keyword Selector Tool

I've seen several people use this as a guide for words in domains. It's also been quoted in appraisals as an indicator of what people are searching for. There's no doubt that it's helpful for guaging populatiry and buzz around certain words or phrases... but how accurate is it really when it seems to "consolidate" words and phrases.

For example, a search for "batteries" yields only "battery" results. A search for "domains" returns only "domain" results. Am I using this thing wrong or just expecting too much out of a free utility.
