From what I've read, if I understand it correctly, by using this tool the more searches a certain term gets per month the better you are as far as having that search term as a domain?

So take poker.com for example. It gets over a million searches a month, so that'd be a good one.

But, what about one that doesn't get so many searches? How many searches are you generally looking for in a keyword? Like xx,xxx before you consider it good? If it's in the x,xxx is it not worth the time and effort to pick up?

In my opinion, if you're talking about the domain with the extension, anything above 100 can be profitable if you park it. Do the math...average 5% CTR of average 50 cents a click means $2.50 a month...that'll cover reg fee and then some in a year.

Of course, thats providing they get to your site using the search. You have to be listed at the top for that to do well really. But anything in XX,XXX range is definitely worth picking up.

If your budget is still quite low, you might not want to take a gamble on anything getting few searches, but you'll find yourself taking more risks when you can afford to be wrong.

Thanks for the reply!

Another question. With Overture, lets say you've got a two word domain. When you search overture for those two works you get no results, but when each word is searched individually you get a lot of results back for each. Would this domain be good to grab?

With all due respect, I have real issue with these kinds of statements...

First off, very few (if any) parked sites get a CTR of 5%. The vast majority get 1% or BELOW and there are far too few that pay .50 cents per click. Again, the average is in the teens of cents.

Secondly, anymore I think the ONLY people searching names WITH extension on OVT are squatters and speculators that are either trying to assess value in a domain or trying to DEvalue a domain.

I was told the same thing that was posted here. Until I fell for it and bought a domain that had an OVT of 400+. The first thing that was stated was that the domain had to have been searched with extension in order to have any value at all. THEN... it was stated that just because a domain with extension WAS searched 400 times, it doesn't mean anyone will go there.

It's all relative to who's talking out of which side of their mouth.

The only REAL answer is to look at yourself when you are not thinking like a domain speculator. Sneak up on yourself while surfing and discover where and how you SEARCH for something.

Personally, I use Google. I NEVER EVERY use extensions when I'm searching for "piano tuning" or "video cards". Why? Because if I search for videocards.com, I get ONE result (on Yahoo, I get 11 results for the SAME site. Call it one) whereas searching "video cards" (note - TWO words) I get 125 MILLION on Yahoo and 379 MILLION on Google.

Now THAT'S selection :D

It also demonstrates another interesting point... OVT queries only Yahoo sites to get their "score". It doesn't count Google. As just demonstrated, Google returned roughly 3 TIMES the results.

I have come to the conclusion that OVT is good for NOTHING except maybe seeing what keywords are being searched and optimising your site to take advantage of those highly used key words. NOTHING MORE.

OVT scores give NO value to a domain with or without an extension.

NamePros, THIS SITE only got forty-some odd last month and is up to a whopping 83 without extension and 84 with. By OVT Standards, this domain is completly worthless.

However, I would suggest with nearly 1800 active users in any given 24 hour period, this site has HUGE worth.

OVT missed that by about 10,000 miles.

Like any other tool, OVT is useful for some things... like I said, key word value. It is NOT valuable for other things... such as domain valuation.

The cultlike following of the OVT Value MYTH has got to end. It's hurting this industry and allowing predatorial domaineers to prey on unsuspecting newbies that will cheaply turn over a profitable domain name after being browbeat with low OVT scores.

As always, my humble opinion...
