Value of a com.ext name

Hi,

I recently registered a name (extension omitted)

www.com.ext

The registry released this name after they had no plans to use it. What value do these sort of names have?

Did you register the "www" part of it (As in www.com.sc or something...) or did you register the "com" part of it?

In other words, is the ccTLD the .ext or .com.ext ?

taking .sc TLD (not .com.sc) as the example as you did, i registered www.com.sc

(i.e. the .ext form and not www.com.com.sc and without the "www" part). Hope that makes sense

I think that the .sc ext itself is pretty weak, let alone .com.sc if you were thinking about private subdomains
Most of the time (but not always) people prefer to register under 2nd level directly.
IMO this one would be worth little more than the going rate for a LLL .sc

i was using .sc as an example

I registered a top level domain (not a third level name). The top level name i registered was of the form www.com.extension
(e.g. www.business.extension - that type of reg with the "com" being the name instead of "business")

There are a few of these names listed on sedo
http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=com.cc&tracked=&partnerid=&language=us

These names are incredibly rare as most are blocked by the registry

Whatever the extension, I'd offer $1,000 for it, if this domain can be legally transferred, the annual reg fee is under $150, and the ccTLD has an English language registrar site.

though I don't know what the ext is, but I am sure YES, this is a good reg, you will get alot, at least lots of traffic.

Sell or offer free 2nd level domain is a good idea to earn some or get traffic.
