Using Newspaper Ads to drive traffic

I'm building a new website for a business idea which should appeal to the general public. I feel advertising in the National newspapers should drive traffic to the site. Any ideas anyone??

Thanks for you input guys - I'm a lazy sod so putting up signs at street corners doesn't appeal to me. I'll just try the ads in the papers and I'll let you know how I progress -

Thanks guys if you are all ready for the Iran war I expect to put the ad in the paper on the 26th April. Its only a two liner in the personals so it shouldn't cost a bomb. My nuclear site is nearly ready.

The ad cost €100 in the Irish Times. bad result so far. the site is irishobituaries.org

Usually people don't go to a website when they see it in a newspaper. Unless its very interesting, easy domain to remember or there next to computer.
