I bet there are some cool inactive usernames from early in the forum's life that some people might like to have.

For Charity I would definetly bid on a name I thought would be cool that otherwise would be unavailable. Plus, isn't that what we do here? Try to find the best name? :sold:

Maybe only names that have been inactive for over 2 years perhaps can go up for auction. If they haven't been around in 2 years what good are they?

Or maybe if they really want the name they can buy it back from the new owner.

it was their name so why would they buy it back?

anyway, i would like to take the uesrname Vlad but it's taken by someone like 3-4 years ago with 0 posts

Interesting -- I really like this idea. It'd have to be a really inactive username for anything like this to actually work, though.

I think we'd see some interesting new usernames with great contributions to a charity! :tu:

Perhaps if it's over a certain number of years old, and there has been no activity, AND a notification was sent out both by PM and email (if the email option has been activated) ... and, then, with no reply an auction for charity in the form of NP$'s could ensue? :gl:

Well there would have to be some sort of dropping policy. Such as no login activity. I bet there are some names out there that would have a bit of value.

This forum is closing in on 100k members and we specialize in names. If they wanted some people could have a username portfolio. As the forum grows they would be bound to increase in value for specialized names.

There may be security issues with having more than one username though.

usernames are not domains but real people, even if they get banned or account get closed they won't be given to anyone.

i do not recomend this idea before joining namepros i was a member of another forum and have nearly 2000 posts but still over 1 year i had not visit to that forum

If not, the inactive usernames could always be modified with a prefix and the user notified. Something like inactive-vlad instead of vlad. That way the the account remains the same whereas the new user gets the username desired.

I think the best criteria would be as follows, after a username is requested to be "recycled" -- we shouldn't prune names automatically:

Posted in fewer than three threads, or less than 10 posts
AND Inactive (no login) for 365 days
AND No response or login upon emailing user after one week

but what about the banned members who haven't posted since they were unbanned, i thin, it would be like >30 days inactivity after ubnanning them, and then deleting
