What makes you think that Google does a good job with translations?

To get a rough idea of quality, perhaps you should find some Spanish content, translate it into English, and see whether the results meet your standards.

It doesnt do a better job than others.

If you dont worry about the translation's quality go ahead.

Here's your original post after Google has translated it into Spanish and then back again:

"Desire to translate many pages to the Spanish but desire so not to pay any person and I think that translation of google makes a good work in him but I can be incorrectโ€ฆ. At least the disease has been having a Spanish version of my site For any person make its site translate by google instead of lang native. loudspeaker? wnt of the quality is superior, but the traffic will come inside Is thankful, SAM"

If having a Spanish version of your site is a disease, Google's translation tools might just be the cure.

I did exactly the same experiment with systransoft.com, and the got the same result word-for-word. It seems they're using the same software as Google.

Sorry then - i thought they had more regional types of translating. I do not know if you ever get exact translate back that you do when you put it in originally. we have a huge translation job ahead of us, and were thinking of using systrans $ version - but we may be better off to find a private translator for the money.

It needn't come back exactly the same to be a good translation (there are lots of different ways of saying the same thing), but it should come back no less coherent than the original.

I guess its already been said but if the quality of the translation isn't that important, go ahead and use Google or any other automatic translator.

If the quality matters, no machine will get you the same quality as a human translator IMO

thats so funny... a disease

Well ill have to think about it and if it would be worth any traffic may bring in... they would then go on by clicking on a banner that would be in spanish and make more sense to them :)

Thanks,
Samer

To be completely fair to the translation software, the original English wasn't perfect. Still, I think it's clear that the translation won't be good enough for human consumption, only for bots.

I want to be best friends with the bot ;) and feed it foreign language hehe ill experiment...

Automatic translations are never can be taken as 100% correct. they are just ok to use when u want to understand something which is written in another language.

Automatic translations are only good for small sentences or just simple words. They often mess up the sentences. Proz.com is a good website from where you can find freelance translators from all over the world at affordable rates. I use it all the time.

I think that automatic translations must be used only fo simple words. Sometimes we have to choose from different variants for simple words. It is difficult to do with sentences at all.

That's a really useful link; thanks!

Have registered and am looking through the translators now.

The only thing I'm finding hard is getting a sense of typical costs.

Interesting. How much time do they need for translations? Approximately?

I saw one profile where the translator said he could do several thousand words a day.

Typical cost seems to be in the range of $0.02 - $0.05 / word (or $20 - $50 / 1000 words), depending on the type of content.
