Strategists at the Pentagon are drawing up plans for devastating bombing raids backed by submarine-launched ballistic missile attacks against Iran's nuclear sites as a "last resort" to block Teheran's efforts to develop an atomic bomb.

Central Command and Strategic Command planners are identifying targets, assessing weapon-loads and working on logistics for an operation, the Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Nothing at all suprising about this. Plans like this are commonly drawn up long beforehand, even if war is a long way off. Honestly this article doesn't say anything new. I'm afraid military action is going to be the only avenue the world community faces in the coming couple of years.

Not surprised.. just wouldn't be surprised to see it occur sooner rather than later.

If they do get these 'atomic bombs' or what could turn out to be a lot worse then what we are expecting. We could be looking at mass killings with these 'war tools', I mean you don't think they wouldn't make more and sell them to terrorists? I know they would because they would love to have more money as if they don't already get enough money from terrorist support! Not trying to say all Muslims are terrorists, but they support it by not really making any drastic changes and trying to abolish them from their country. They can blame themselves for making themselves all seem like terrorists. I think we should NOT ask the 'UN' to get them to go 'inspect' and give them time to finish their developments and then get the bombs and whatever else they have out of the country. It is just like how we did in Iraq, we gave Saddam MONTHS to get anything and EVERYTHING he wanted out of the country and for all the terrorists to leave. I mean if he didn't he was retarded.

Back to the subject...
If we don't invade them soon then I think they will develop and distribute these 'weapons' around the world to different organizations that may use them for the hurting of human kind. But then again if we do we are looking at another war and I don't think the USA can do it alone as we are kinda already in a hole and this would just further our debt beyong current debts.

Remember these are my opinions and IF you don't like them tell me but make sure you tell me why and why I shouldn't think that by providing facts. If I agree with you, you might make me change my mind. But that isn't going to happen very easily!

I concur, but that all depends upon how much of the international community is actually for going to war - and quite honestly I don't think it's enough regardless of how the US participates and whether or not the army is stretched thin. If we go into Iran you can bet that Syria will more than likely conduct military operations of some form or another (IMHO perhaps all out war).

That being said - there is one other country that would be much more likely to conduct some sort of surgical strike. Israel. Their very existence depends upon Iran not going nuclear. This goes well beyond the statements made by a figurehead of state.

If we start at looking at invading 3 countries during one presidency, it scares the heck out of me. I'm just praying for the Democrats to get into Congress and impeach the President. There is plenty to go on with the wire tapping and Plamegate. A Democratic Congress would change things tremedously.

Talk about it with your friends and neighbors, not just in a forum or only with people that agree with you. Together we can make a difference! :)

well if this invasion started soon ... U.S economy will decline and we'll go in debt again :)

why can't we be isolationist .. i dont get it

To be honest, i'm not too worried about Iran having a nuclear bomb. I'm much more worried about North Korea having a nuclear bomb!

LOL!

The Dems will not take control of Congress in the next election and there will be no impeachment.

This would be an air war not a ground war.

So exactly what should we do about Iran then? Let them acquire nuclear weapons and offer a two for one special to every terrorist group that walks in the door? That certainly makes for a safer world for all.

For one, we've tried that once already and it didn't work. Another reason would be that the world has become far too much of a global community. You cannot just sit back and build a wall around yourself anymore. I'm sorry, but isolationism is thinking along the lines that was used almost two centuries ago now. It just doesn't work.

To be honest, i'm not too worried about Iran having a nuclear bomb. I'm much more worried about North Korea having a nuclear bomb!

I agree to an extent but Iran has the closer terrorism ties in the end. I think it's almost equally dangerous if either country has them at this point but Iran's the bigger threat in my book. North Korea likes to play games.

I definitely agree that Iran are a very big threat, but something about the way North Korea works scares the heck out of me.

Not to mention they have the resources e.g. man power, to use such a bomb, why do you think the US haven't invaded yet?

I think an invasion or surgical strike on North Korea would tend to make China very nervous.. and that's why we haven't pushed it too much IMO.

Again, the basis for 90% of the conflict in the Middle East IMO..

Every major country in the world has plans drawn up for military conflict with every other major country in the world.

A few years ago, some got all bent out of shape when for a military project, some Chinese soldier 'students' drew up and published a large document for a land invasion of the United States. It's no big deal.

This sort of thing happens all the time, it's what the military does in times of little conflict. Nothing new here, nothing to get worked up over. Additionally, wouldn't you rather have plans drawn up beforehand rather than winging it... in any eventuality?

Cheers,
John

And that's what makes baseless wars so scary and dangerous. Soldiers going to a country on the wrong basis.

Would we not be facing a similar situation had we not gone into Iraq? At least now we have a buffer zone in between Iraq and Syria of some sorts. Granted, communications go far beyond being right next to your ally, but strategically speaking, we'd be looking at a much different picture right now and IMHO a more dangerous one.

John hit the nail on the head as well. The difference here is these plans are being worked and reworked to hit all the right spots.

With Iran's attitude to other countries i don't blame the US for identifying targets in Iran for possible military strikes in the furture...
