Is the .us dead or just hasnt picked up?

Should I launch a service under .us or .net ?

It is targeted for the US market only.

I would probably go with .us personally.
Depends on the purpose, some extensions fit better than others. Too often .net is the fallback when you missed the .com. .us puts the emphasis on the US-based nature of your products/services.
.us is weak now but can only grow IMO.

Probably a toss-up. You are not looking for type-in traffic and both .net and .US are second-level extensions so it's just a preference of how you want to brand your site.

If you go with .net you are probably more likely to have visitors going to the .com by mistake. That's something consider.

If you go with .US there might be some people unfamiliar with the extension.

My suggestion is to consider the category for your site and then make a decision. If it's finance, government, health care, eduaction, etc. I would go with .US.

If it's consumer goods, travel, adult, etc. I would go with .net.

Good luck!

It is goods, and only for US citizens.

I am starting to think that .net would confuse others while .US make sit clear that it is us based site.

definitely .net. .us is only for the american market, .net for the whole world.

I repeat. It is only for the us market. I have the same name as .net and .us it is a five letter word.

I am starting to think if marketed right .us makes more sense.

Why are you keeping the domain secret? If you can divulge the domain name, it would be helpful. It's very possible the best answer may be "none of the above".

If you are marketing tangible goods on a tight budget, go with the .US. But if you plan on investing millions, stick with .COM.

HI

I like .net better but if your customer target is the usa then get .us or get both.

.US hands down. Or .org is all else fails. (with .com not being available) .net has yet to do something valid for my point of view, at least with .us, you have immediate country branding with a valid extension.

.US is your clear choice, preferably you have a physical .US presence.

When I am hand-reging a keyword domain, I prioritize extensions in this order:

.com
.net
.info
.us
.org
.biz

.org usually doesn't make sense for the type of product sites that I am purchasing. .net and .info have some real sales behind them so that is why I have prioritized them above .us (see DNJournal).

Should .us be higher up on the list?

should be .com .net .us .org ... that sounds best to me.

i'd take .NET. why wouldn't you? look @ the number of registered names for .net and .us. .NET is still a top TLD for many business when .com is gone, and as said already here, .us is probably more local/targetted, which either really helps it alot, or hurts it alot...

I think that .net is hands-down the 2nd best domain extension unless you are a non-profit organization, in which case you would use .org.

Well... hands down is a tough statement to say. .ORG is a huge extension for many.

.NET is obviously beating .US due to the length of time that each has been around, but I think that once several .US's start going up they will pop up like wildfire. Just look at the LLL.com's as an example of how much a worthless domain can become a hot commodity in just 5 years.

I'd suggest in this stage, that you purchase .com, .net and .us for what you think is a good domain.

.NET by a landslide. Most internet users have only heard of COM/NET/ORG. They all enjoy a solid reputation.

Most internet users have probably never even been to 1 .US site. It doesn't have the same business credibility as .NET

Yes... but let us hope in the future .us will be a power extension beating out .net (i don't ever see anything coming close to .com).

We just need some huge brand name from the US to put their domain as .us and have the .com redirect to it and that will be our starting point.
