I am interested in a couple of domains with .us ext. I'm wondering if it's worth it to get a .us and pretty good name. I know marketing is key to any successful site, but I would like input from people here.

Thanks

I happen to think that .us is a very good extension.
For pure american companies, it should be used 2nd only to .com, rather than .net, .org etc.

The generic stuff is good too. It really depends on the type of site, your target audience, etc.

Best of luck,

I agree.. for an American site, .us should be second to .com... and, again, it goes without saying it's a very good ext.

A lot of pros out there consider .US more valuable than .NET but I'm not one of them. .NET has been around since jump street and is therefore more recognized. And, of course, there's the fact that .NET has no ownership restrictions.

IMO.

I like .US, and I liked it a lot better when it was $4 a year ;)

pros - .us is the country code of the america in a technical sense
cons - in terms of actual usage the country code of the us is .com

Pro's - its potential :!:
Con's - the "present value" of that potential. :blink:

:imho:

Also, usage/valuations/perceptions really depend on the specific domain, as mentioned above as well.
All the best!

Okay if the domain name is in a language other then English or Spanish the domain is completly worthless.

I think so.

Here's some data I compiled on how AfterNIC ranks extensions. You may find it interesting:

.COM = 50/50
.US = 45/50
.BIZ = 40/50
.INFO = 40/50
.WS = 30/50
.NET = 30/50
.CC = 30/50
.TV = 30/50
.JP = 20/50
.BE = 20/50

Thanks, that's an interesting viewpoint.

THanks AMCY that interesting they put .tv on same par with .net

The .US potential is enormous. America is the most online country in the world - or at least the last time I checked. When the public is educated about their own extention, maybe simply by seeing www.company.us on a TV advert - things will turn around. Get your .US names now, IMO. But leave some for me. I am in the middle of developing one now! :tu:

A keyword in .ws/cc/tv are not worth even a fraction of the same keyword in .net, IMHO. How were these numbers drawn up?

WOW..Thank you all. This has been very helpful. I registered the name I wanted about two minutes after I made this post because I really wanted the name. But this confirms my original belief. I am getting out of the name game and focusing on one big project so having the right names will go a long way.
Again, thanks for the valuable input.

I find it strange though, that a one word .ws that I own did not sell (when I was trying to sell it) but a two word .info sold rather quickly.
What a strange addiction we all have..

bit of a joke really, all it demonstrates is afternic's lack of knowledge regarding domain names.

Does not surprise me .info much better than .ws IMO, especially internationally.
