Lifted from NameCheap.com:

WhoisGuard for .US domains will be disabled on Jan 26, 2005 and customer's real contact information will start showing on .US WHOIS. This is mandated by the United States Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). WhoisGuard can no longer be activated on .US domains as well.

.US domains.US domains
yeah to filter out real people living in U.S. i think it's a great move to avoid running out of u.s. for U.S. citizens/residence.

So much for spam and ID fraud protection. I see no benefit to this whatsoever.

Some people see no benefit in using a WHOIS privacy, either. :D

Well, that's the way it is until someone can effectively force a change at the
NTIA.

Sign of the times.
Privacy is a crime nowadays.
BTW ID theft and other issues stem from the widespread use of ID numbers like SSN without adequate safeguards.
Often governement is THE problem and not the solution.

I have a few .US domains and I don't use privacy and I live in the UK. Some I've had for 3 year.
