I apologize in advance is this is not the right forum for this question. Our goal is to find the best domain registrar (not web site host) with fanatical US based professional tech/customer support.

We have a social destination website that makes around 7 figures roughly a year. We rent out our own cabinets with our own dedicated hardware at one of the largest telecommunication companies around, Level3. We are looking not for "cheap domain registrar" but utterly professional and reliable domain registrar.

The reason why I'm reaching out to you guys is that our domain registrar suspended our account (pointed our domain name to their parked servers) due to a phishing report from one of our users. This has cost a lot of money as the site was down for hours. We were able to fix that but in the process was really hard to reach a live tech support person to un suspend the account. Will not go into detail on the current domain registrar but we are looking for a new one that has great US based support and communication.

Right now I created a list of companies to look into what are your thoughts?

name.com
moniker.com
gandi.net
fabulous.com
liquidweb.com

Thanks!!!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
GoDaddyGoDaddy
Two of those names are not even american, gandi & fabulous. One is a hosting provider, liquidweb. One is a Joke as a registrar, moniker. Which leaves name.com, which is a good registrar with great service and prices.

I also like name.com and it could be a good choice.

Worst choices ever.

$1.99 coupons at GoDaddy make up for the 45 minute wait time. :xf.rolleyes:

(Name.com and for superior ticket support Uniregistry in your case)

You don't want to go anywhere near Moniker. Fabulous has good support, but is on the other side of the world from the US. Name is maybe OK. You might want to keep looking. Registrars in general don't have good support because of their low profit margins. Even the more expensive ones don't have good support.

For shut-downs like you described, I would rather go with the more personalized service of Fabulous. Godaddy is not supportive of domain owners in these cases.

He didn't mention GD, I just threw that in there as a joke 'cause all the coupon clippers out there. In a situation for a shutdown, it is best to go with a fast ticket support system that Uniregistry has (closest you'll get to the USA) and Fabulous.

If you're "concerned" about the registration rates (which I'm sure you're not), it's $29.95 for a .com at Fab (they do have portfolio discounts), whereas it's $12.88 at Uni. Depending on where you are in the world, the time difference between Aussie and the USA is much different, which would make you stay up later to get in a phone call (if Fab offers phone support, I only have a couple names there). Uniregistry is located in the same time zone as New York.

If support is needed overnight, Fab. If during normal business operations, Uni.

As a side note, Uni has the best UI for domainers I've seen.

If money is not the issue, check up MarkMonitor.com , which is used by Fortune 100 companies.

OK, I haven't used them but my guess is they charge more per domain per year, than I make in a month. ( which is really not much, honest )

Might as well hire your own general counsel that have LLM degrees and can draft up crafty email responses or get to talk to who they need to, when they need to... that is of course, if money isn't an issue (as all those Fortune (1-5)00 companies have a legal team or a professional on payroll). :xf.wink:

I haven't seen networksolutions.com mentioned yet. They offer premium support. ($59.99) How is netsol?

They'll give you 100 free XYZ domains if you pay for premium support. :xf.confused:

...really want a registrar like that? O.o

I used to use Dotster; despite their higher prices compared to other registrars at the time, because they were within 20 miles of choking the [....] out of them from me before they got bought out. :xf.rolleyes:

NetSol are one of the crappiest Registrars on the planet. On par with Moniker, IMHO. It's no coincidence that they are owned by the same company, web.com

Thanks Stub, Domainace, matrigaldo, David Walker, DNVantage and others!

Based on your feedback will narrow it down to the following:

Fabulous
Uniregistry
networksolutions.com

Never had good experience with Dotster and Godaddy is ok although we don't feel comfortable with their support if another issue arises with one of our users. Once we select the new registrar will come back to this thread to bring it full circle on our decision.

Thanks again!

There is no choice for you here. Fabulous.com is Australian, NetworkSolutions.com you shouldn't touch with a barge-pole, and although I haven't used them, I hear great things about Uniregistry.com. So if this is your shortlisted 3 registrars, one doesn't qualify, one is crap, one has a great reputation. Hmmm, scratch head, which registrar should you choose? Let us know which registrar you choose.

Hi stub,

Looked over uniregistry.com again and I didn't see any general/sales phone support. Is there phone support when you are a customer?

As I said, I've never used them. Just going by what others have said. I only visited their website for the first time yesterday. I could take or leave their website, and I thought their .com's were a tad pricey at $12.88 including privacy. I'm not sure why you discarded Name.com. I personally use Dynadot.com
