.us .us and .co.uk

I live in Sweden and here does our tld .se stands for quality, most companies use the .se tld instead of .com

Whats the american opinion about .us domain and how much do they use it ? Do people try the .com before .us ?

And the same question about the english co.uk ?

many uk businesses use the co.uk as its more known here but they also use the .com id still say .com rules but if they cant get that they will make do with co.uk and not be to bothered as people know of co.uk

.US is becoming more of a choice for companys and many developed sites are hitting the web. IMHO I think in the years that pass, because of how popular country extensions are getting the .com will become 2nd choice.

I personally favor .COM over any other extensions still. .US can be very good for sites that are centered around the US area.

For domestic operations, country-level tlds make a lot of sense. But a lot of companies, specially those offering internet-based services (hosting, design, programming) need an international tld like .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz . If you're a .us (or .se as our thread starter pointed out), you immediately tend to limit your market, which is fine if that's your intention.

For example, if I were looking for webhosting, swedehost.com will be more promising than swedehost.se, as I will have the impression that the latter might not be capable of providing technical support for non-Swedish speakers.

People in the UK seem to use co.uk and .com. Not sure which more, but co.uk does get traffic.

People in states have never heard of .us. It isn't used except for k12.<state>.us for the education systems in each state.

.us isn't used as much as .coms, but who knows, things may change in the next few years.

I've noticed (living in the UK) that people who are new to the internet will often try co.uk first, especially if it is a UK site, but more experienced users always seem to go for .com first.

America corporate sites probably still go for .com over .us, but major corporations probably get both...and everything else
