I have purchased several domains through Sedo without any issues. I recently purchased another domain, and after submitting my payment the transfer specialist sent me the following message:

Please be advised that the seller is unwilling to transfer the domain out of Godaddy.com. We kindly ask that you either create a Godaddy account to complete a push, or if you are unwilling to do so we can cancel at the fault of the seller and refund your payment.

This is strange. I am fairly certain that the domain is not transfer locked. How can the seller refuse to transfer out of GoDaddy??

Since the only account I have ever used to receive domains through Sedo is my GoDaddy account, I let them know that GoDaddy is fine. Several days have already passed and the seller has yet to push the domain into Sedo's account.

Any ideas guys?

Ask Sedo if the seller is willing to transfer the domain into Sedo's Go Daddy transfer account; the seller transfers to that account, Sedo transfers the domain to whatever registrar that you, the buyer, wants. Once the domain is out of the seller's hands, he/she no longer has a say where the domain eventually lands.

Typically, once funds have been received, Sedo hangs onto them and does not return them to the seller, unless the seller refuses to transfer the domain.

It sounds as though the seller is playing games with you.

Thanks for your feedback, Ms Domainer.

The process you describe is the way it has always worked for me, the buyer, which is why I was confused when Sedo told me that seller refused to transfer out of GoDaddy.com. Sedo is the one who is transferring the domain to me, not the seller. Like you mentioned, all the seller has to do is push the domain to Sedo's GD account.

I'll be giving them a call.

Once the contact info at GD changes, you can't transfer out domain for 60 days.

This was my thought also; perhaps the seller bought the name recently himself, and knows he cannot do a transfer since it is within the 60 day waiting period after his whois info change from his buy.

I know that he should be pushing, not transferring, the domain to Sedo's Godaddy account, but perhaps the seller is a newbie, or English is not his native language, and he's having trouble understanding that a 'push' is different than a 'transfer'. Maybe he only understands about transfers, is trying to get the auth code but of course GD is not giving one to him since it's within that 60 day waiting period. You might mention this to Sedo, have them contact him and make sure he knows how to do a 'push' (I think GD calls it an 'account change') rather than a transfer. Could be as simple as that...

Let us know how it turns out :)

Seller had the highest possible sedo seller activity index (those 5 yellow bars), and according to my preliminary research, manages a domain company.

Will let you know. Thanks Bannen.

Not true.

I sold a domain that went into Sedo's Go Daddy transfer account; Sedo then transferred the domain to the buyer's registrar, which wasn't Go Daddy.

A push to another account in the same registrar does NOT count as a transfer.

BTW, this is not meant as a put down; it took me 5 years to know the difference between a push and a transfer.

OK, but as far as I know (and my experience) 60 days lock is effective whenever whois info at GD changes, even when there is no account change or transfer - even when you just change your email address.

Maybe GD allowed that to Sedo but not everyone can do it. I maybe wrong.
