They are the .link registry, so it's a good step to bring more eyes to embracing a G'. They are practicing what they preach:

    **

That is actually kind of funny..

@HotKey If UNR is the name, they should be on UNR.link, not Uniregistry.link, IMO. They're forwarding from UNR.link to Uniregistry.link at the moment.

Either way, it's weird to see a LLL.com forward to a .link, at least in this point in time. Most of the new extensions aren't doing that great and since Uniregistry is heavily invested in them, they've been prioritzing them over .com. It's one of the reasons Uniregistry's markerplace has never appealed to me much. You search for a .com and you get tons of new extensions thrown at you.

I get why they're doing it and maybe one day .link will really catch on. Till then, if I were checking the site out for the first time- I would have trusted them more had I landed on a LLL.com and not a .link. That's just how things are. If they manage to change that perception- good for them. Time will tell.

I like the domain name, but the name sounds a bit complex. I know it means what it says, but it seems a bit forced. I guess they have to be careful because as of yesterday Godaddy owns Uniregistry now.

Agree unusual, but a few examples of similar. For example for years DXC.com forwards to DXC.technology, and after their conversion KPMG.com forwards to home.kpmg. Not a new extension, but Zoom.com forwards to zoom.us.

@Bob Hawkes What can I say. Not a fan but I'm a .com guy so I'm probably biased. Zoom still using .us is indeed interesting. They only purchased Zoom.com recently so I have a feeling at some point they may make the switch from the .us to the .com.

I agree that after, apparently, spending so much ($2 million possibly), they must have plans to more actively use it at some point. Wasn't the sale late in 2018? I'm surprised if they were going to do something more than a redirect they did not already do so, although of late realize they are pretty busy with other things! They must be the most used .us domain name these days, I would think.

ps re UNR name in general, I am not a huge fan. The acronym is used by University of Nevada, Reno, and to many UN + something might apply to United Nations. I mean I guess not on a .com in either case, but I am just sort of whatever re the rebrand.

@Bob Hawkes Oh, yeah. You're right. They seem to have bought it at the end of 2018. .us is a more recognized extension than .link. Maybe Zoom's content with the .us being their main site. Seemed to have worked getting them so far. .link can be a good extension when the word before the dot makes sense together with the word 'link'. Shop.link makes sense. As a main site that's supposed to serve a big organization and when the name has no direct connection to the word 'link'... I just don't see it catching on.

The other advantage of .us extension for zoom as I see it is that the phrase zoom us is very nice that fits their service. So I would think, for a similar thing with link, you want a similar nice match across the dot. Almost all of the new extension sales for really high amounts have a great across the dot match.

It would be interesting to see if the company have told their shareholders, or anyone else, about plans for the .com. Possibly, they just got it to not lose people guessing the .com, or someone else setting up on the name, but low 7 figures seems a lot for that, since then they were not nearly as high valued as now after the stock run.
