How would I know how many unique visitors the domain-name receives without being purchased ?

Without being purchased?

If it has a current owner, ask them for stats and proof.

If it hasnt been registered, its unlikely you will get any traffic.

Unless you can moniter the server logs directly, it's hard to get an accurate unique visitor count. The closest you may come is the stats at http://www.alexa.com

Yeah I would have to agree with painperdu, check out Alexa or ask the current owner about the stats of his domain. Statistics can be seen within cPanel if they are on a Unix Server. Good luck. :tu:

alexa has a nice service

I'm not so sure alexa is accurate. If one person with Alexa toolbar visits the site repeatedly then the traffic rank goes up tremendously.

I'd have to agree. Alexa rankings are not reliable because they can be faked fairly easily.

That makes me wonder if there is a system that can be created that works like Alexa, yet works properly. Any ideas?

best way is to host it yourself and get the stats

Can anybody tell me, is it possible to know, from where the keyword searches have come from. I mean, if I'm planning to reg a co.uk name, is it possible to see somewhere, how many searches came form UK? Overall nubers are all great, I'm just not sure about UK.

The number it gets is from running a query on inventory.overture.com for the domain in the search box. (including the extention)
