One of the main reasons for the fall of domain prices in reseller market is that domain industry is unable to attract new players in 2009.
There used to be a lot of buzz about domain name industry in 2007, which attracted many people from from various professions to invest here.
But in 2009, along with recession, people are no longer looking to invest in unsecure markets and domain name industry is one such.
For example look at namepros or other domain forums, where there used to be lot of buzz/questions/activity by newbies two years back.
Please share your thoughts, what we should do to attract more players into the industry. What are the factors that are discouraging/encourage new players?

in order to get investors you need liquidity.

When the economy recovers, then end users will return to the domain market, and domain investors will follow.

In the mean time it is a great time to buy and hold.

The American economy went through one of the worst times since the great depression, so most domainers or would be domainers in the US were just holding on to dear life to survive the blow.
(Don't believe the rest of the world felt the same blow)

If you consider the internet is only about 15 yrs old and only about 5% of the world population has any kind of Broadband or Highspeed internet access, I think we have only gotten started with domain names.

Its the small business folks from all over the world that need to be educated on domain names and that will happen and is happening (valuations of cctld's have been very promising). When they realise they need an online presence regardless of the facebook page, apps or twitter pages, they will think of domain names.

in gunna merge what DNproperty said with something i read this week.
The internet is very young (like DNP said). So todays domainers can be looked at in the same way that the first investors of oil were. There was no need for oil but they held in and ended up very rich people. It the same with domains. As soon as HUGE corporate companies get involved domain prices will be through the roof, and those of use with domains will be rolling in it...so keep 'um close and hold on tight ;)

Players will be back when the economy recovers. When people start creating new businesses, the demand for domains will increase. Right now, there are many businesses trying to "survive" while others have gone bankrupt. Patience. Buy and hold.

I totally agree and thats why I'm investing and building a portfolio. The internet is exploding in growth. Good names are hard to find. People who said they would never bother with a pc now own 1 or 2. The population of the world is doubling in the next decade. The net grows with it and so does business.

All businesses are just trying to survive right now, those who manage, will come out stronger and in a better position. The domain market can only get bigger not smaller.
