This is the second story in less than a week that I've read about someone threatening to commit suicide on Facebook, and people on the other end have contacted authorities, resulting in a saved life. Wow.

That's good news that there are still teens who are willing to help their peers in this crucial situation. Good job to her!. For the boy, I pity him for wanting to end his life like that! pathetic... Hope his parents are aware of his situation..

yes, that's good news. Though I think that there could be a lot of "fake" suicide threats on Facebook, I don't know if police are going to check every case like this..

His parents are probably the ones who cause him to be in this situation.

It is a sad world where someone can be arrested for speaking their mind online. You can legally kill yourself by smoking, but apparently suicide is wrong. Since when did this happen? You can legally sign a DNR at a hospital which is basically legal suicide too, but doing it in your bedroom is now illegal? Shame. Where are our freedoms going....

MJ - In all likelihood. If they are posting it online - they are asking for help.

If anyone posts a suicide threat on Facebook or anywhere else. The police should be called - and maybe an ambulance - sent out - or some designated person to look after incidents such as this.
I suspect that with the World Economy the way it is (and its gonna get worse) that there will be alot more of these. I am on Facebook - and I do occasionally see people alluding to the fact that they are Depressed - but never anything that blatent.

Anyways - Someone needs to go check on these people if they are outwardly asking for help. If it is found out that it was a prank - send them or their parents a bill for the Professional's time and services provided.

If someone really wanted to die - they wouldnt be telling people about it - they would be doing it.

True, I never thought about that, thanks for the new perspective.

Unfortunantly sometimes there is no help though. Sometimes the pain is so great, and no matter what you do it wont go away. No one you talk with can help, and day after day you are stuck in the same situation... whether it be abusive, or anything. Sometimes the only way out for alot of people seems to be suicide. And that is true. How else would you get out of abusive situations, especially like in australia recently where your own father locked you up and raped you repeatedly for years. And even had children with you. Sad to say, but there was no help for her. She was in a horrible situation.

Situations like this exist each day, perhaps not to that extent of abuse, or that extent of being held captive, but it happens each day in every city in the world. People in horrible situations, and no matter who they tell, it would not help.

Very sad world we live in - and people who attempt suicide are only being human by reacting to their environment. They should not be treated like a criminal.
