Hi Everyone! I'm Leanne and I'm moving from web design to domain investing over the next 6 months. My plan is:

1. Take the DN Academy Course
2. Purchase Darryl Lopes' ebooks
3. Watch listen to as many Domain Sherpa episodes as I can

I'll be selling my web design business in the new year so I should have a decent amount to invest initially. In the meantime I'm practising with a few closeouts and hand regs (had my first sale a couple of weeks ago).

I'm looking forward to reading the forms back to front and hopefully one day being able to add value myself :)

Hi Leanne and welcome to nps! Take plenty of time reading and learning here before investing too much.

I will do, just doing the odd one for process experience at the moment- learning all the tools and such. I'm enjoying it so want push it further over the coming months :)

Hello!

You joined a great Forum, one loaded with threads and posts covering all aspects of domain names so there is plenty to read as interested.

As others have mentioned, it can be advisable to purchase slowly in the early days of domaining.

Welcome to NamePros!

Thanks WatchDogue! I'm just spending $10 or $20 here and there at the moment and will start to invest more heavily when I feel my knowledge can backup my purchases.

Do you all make a living from this or is it a side project for you?

Thanks WatchDogue! Do you all make a living from this or is it a side project for you?

In the late 90s' acquired some domains for private website projects we were working on.

A guy offered either 2000. or 2500. for one of the names and another guy offered 2600. for a different name I picked up just a few days prior.

I was really enjoying the first few months of domaining.

Then the first guy offered the same for another name we had recently acquired -names were 70. reg for 2 years in that time frame. And then he wanted a couple more as well

Suddenly I was in a registration race with that guy to reg names I knew he wanted before he could reg 'em & it was by catching them instantly as they were dropped by careless owners.

So acquired names back then for private personal use and some as modest investments although with a great ROI.

Nowadays just list names with BIN & if someone finds one and wants one, great, if not, I seldom think about it.

Am non - dependent on the sales of domain name for any aspect of my life and my domains are. in my mind, interesting and enjoyable but not really any part of a living / side project per se.

Welcome to NP! Sounds like an excellent plan you have and congrats on the first sale.

re: domain sherpa, you can search for the Michael Cyger videos (they are the older ones). Each video also has a downloadable transcript. I find I miss less when reading. Best of luck.
