Let me ask you - Unless you go there and/or plan to develop it yourself, and I don't see them losing a udrp if you tried to sell it to them, what value do/did you see in it??

well, I'm surprised I can't find any TM's with this name. If you are looking to build it, I would suggest an info site of services around the campus. Probably good idea to disclaimer that "this site is not officially connected to University of California, Irvine" or something like that and provide a link to their site for mobile devices, assuming they have one. Good luck with it.

thanks guys for the your valuable feedback.

scandiman - yeah u r right i should focus on developing a site for listing information related to the services arnd campus and also can include some information about the different courses offered at the campus.

hawkeye- i really respect your honest opinion. thanks. may be i'll contact them and see their response, if possible get some help from them in developing the site which reflects their image.

Using their content like listing class schedules I think will set yourself up for a lawsuit. When I said around campus I meant off campus services and community which I think is much safer, but even then I think this name feels risky. I'll be doing the same for some college campus names of my own, maybe I'll get taken to the woodshed, I don't know.

Contacting a campus official I think is a big mistake also, unless you want them to take the name from you for being a bad faith reg.

I would need to agree with Scandi here. Be very careful with this reg.

NCAA is very protective about anything related to their brand or which UCIrvine is.

Informational site is good, perhaps maps for campus, facilities of the community etc.

Working with them is good. Contacting them is risky.

Perhaps focus on the community of Irvine of which the University is part of.

Exactly! Maybe even make a play on the URL to brand the site You See Irvine, and provide links on hotels, restaurants, bars and clubs and other area businesses and attractions.

I positively agree with this statement.

For all practical purposes, .mobi is still in it infancy. Many and most are perhaps not aware of its existence.

I would hate think of a conversation like this:

"You have a what? A moldie? Oh, a mobi. What's a mobi? Oh, I see. Why do you have a mobi with our name? Did you contact anyone at the Administrators office to get permission? Oh, now you want permission. I see. No, usually you ask for permission before you use our name. What's that? You want to sell it to us? Let me get this straight...you registered our name as a domain name without getting consent and now you want to sell that domain to us?

What did you say your name and address is? Is there a phone number you can be reached at?

Great. I am sure someone will be contacting you."

.Moldie. That's what we will call .mobi if it doesn't make it. :hehe:
