I am new to this, and was wondering if someone could help me understand how to choose a TLD/ccTLD. Also if plurals work better or not?

Sometimes I get really confused on which one to buy and would have potential.

I am going to illustrate two examples that would help you guys understand my dilemma and help arrive at a conclusion.

Example One:
A generic name like 'blankblueraydisc' is available in .tv, .info, .mobi, .us and .in.

I can safely assume that .info, .us and .in are the better extensions?

My reason: .mobi is perhaps a mobile led tld and maynot have too much excitement with regards to blueraydisc. However a retailer, manufacturer would be keen to get the .US or .IN domain. Similarly .info can be used to create a information site on blankblueraydisc.

Similarly, whether disc or discs

Example Two:
A city or something like a celebrity name is available, which domain would I choose? Celebrity is country specific usually... but how about just the keyword "celebrity"?

Again should I go with celebrities or celebrity?

and SCORE or SCORES?

Please throw some light..

Cheers
B

There are very few domains with inherent value. The closest thing domainers have are completely "bought out" LLL tlds. Otherwise, for any domain, you will need to consider it on a case-by-case basis taking into account all you know about it (how often it's searched, similar domain popularity, recent sales of similar domains, brandability, existing trademarks, memorability, appropriateness for target audience, etc). Plural and singular and tld should be considered case-by-case, depending on the domain. As important as the domain itself, what is your own business plan for the domain? What is your level of patience? level of risk? how will you market the domain? will you renew if it's unsold? for how long? are you going to develop? what type of return on investment do you require? Those considerations should also be known and considered when assessing a domain. Good luck.

hi barcode,

in ur post u wrote about celebs names and i dont know if u intend to reg celebs names or TM (trade marks) in tld/cctld that r not reg`d...
i tell u this: dont reg TMs names or celebs names. u will be in trouble. in the search box type TM issues or something similar and u will see that everybody that ask what people think about this kind of regs, the answer is always the same - all of us say that this person will be in trouble if reg a name like that.
here goes an example:
www.microsoftwindowsvista.tv post
read everything that u can here in NP as well

good luck w ur domains,
wish u all the best,
bricio.

Thanks Bricio, I was more looking for celebs rather than a celebrities name :)

Still quite early here( ish), not had enough coffee ;)
Conclusion was the wrong choice of word, more an assumption

Imo if you are after celebrity/geo type sites, then .info or .tv would be the way to go.
I personally favour .tv ( but i am biased ;) )

Although it is entirely up to you,the great thing about this board is the different views people have on various extensions.
.US .Mobi and .TV all have their own sections, definately worth going into each having a read and learning a bit about all of them.

Thanks and a belated (46 posts) welcome to Namepros

feel free to pm me if you need anything, if i can help, i would be happy to.
