Turkish domains

I emigrated from UK to Turkey two months ago (hence why I was less present online lately than I was before) and am about to start my new website about my life in Turkey. I figured that to pass the URL to locals and make it easily rememberable, a .com.tr or .gen.tr address would be useful if not too expensive (in addition to the .com address I already bought).

Does anyone know
- any good registrar (= reliable on the long term) that sells Turkish domains?
- what is the average price per annum?
- is there any restriction on who can own a Turkish domain? (although for now I should have no issues I guess as I obviously have a Turkish address now)

Thanks in advance for advise.

i think there are quite heavy restrictions on .com.tr even if you are a resident of the country (but i could be wrong)

if you do manage to reg .com.tr names let me know!! as i would be interested in partnering up on some

I think .com.tr is for businesses in Turkey only but I could be wrong as I have seen a few sites advertising .com.tr names (not sure if those are reliable or not, hence why I started this topic to know where I can register .tr domains at a reliable place)

I believe .gen.tr is the domain for citizens and I am not sure if there are any restrictions on that. I don't think so but I am unsure.

Good news: .com.tr is unrestricted but you need to provide personal ID # or company identification.
I use: http://www.nic.tr/
English interface available. For those who are not familiar with the system, first you need to create a contact handle, then you can use that handle for registering domains. At some stage you will be able to upload scanned documents. Your application will then be put on hold and examined by the registry.
If your application is accepted the registry will then bill you accordingly.
So registration is not real time.
More good news: the TLD is cheap B-)

Some additional info: I read somewhere that "biz" means either we or we are in turkish. So that .biz domains have got some popularity there.

Are you sure that there is no restriction on .com.tr ? It would be great but sounds almost too good to be true, as the extention was intended for businesses while .gen.tr was made for individuals.

If .com.tr or .gen.tr are available to the audience after all, can you explain exactly how the registration goes and which registrars are well established and reliable? I would be very keen on buying one.

PS: is a local address needed? Of course I do have a local address, but because some non-Turkey-based forum members may also have interest...

I think it used to be restricted but many TLD have relaxed their rules over the past years. Afaik no local address needed. Just read the faq on nic.tr.
The critical thing is the documentation and it may take a few days before your names go live.

You can buy gen.tr and web.tr domains without any rule.

But for other *.tr, you have to get some certificate.

What type of documents are needed for .com.tr which is the most popular one?

For .gen.tr there is no restriction (locality etc) at all and no paperworks required to register them?
