Right.

Let's try and get this place going.

Does anyone have any ideas?
There seems to have been a lot of things in the past about group teen projects. This thread is for ideas about what we can do to increase the teen zone's activity as well as for everyone to post their skills/etc.

I was thinking about convincing NPQueen to put a message in the header (near the live chat link) asking for teens to set their age in their profiles so that they can see this section. I feel a large number of people are unaware of this forum purely because they either set the incorrect age in their profiles, or if they don't set it at all.

Another is create a sort of teen badge? We should be proud that we are teens playing ball with the adults in a mature world.

I'm really open to any suggestions you lot have. Us teens our known for our creativity so lets show it.

Also, there's been two threads about a sort of live meeting. Perhaps we can get the forum more popular and have a sort of conference in the live chat? We can our own room in the NP live chat which I can moderate.

Nice addon RJ. Mind sharing ? ( I dont expect you to)

Social Groups is a stock feature of vBulletin now.

I think if you kill this forum and move it to a social group you will be killing the whole teenage forum idea.

Also, many young learn from the old, so I dont think its a good idea to put an age restriction on the forum.

I think the best idea would be to take a note of the number of members under 25, if this is quite a large amount then I think its the fourm that needs to be improved to make it more intresting. If there are enough member to make this type of forum popular I think the next step would be to create a large forum categorie like this:

|-Teenage Forums
|--Domaining
|--Hobbys
|--Tutorials
..You get the idea, basically a section that is more targeted towards teenagers. Even if this is just a trial (if it doesnt work just merge them all back in to one forum) i think its worth a try.

Tell me what ya think.

Sounds like an idea worth considering! What do you guys think, would you want older members to be able to participate in the Teen Zone?

Well, I think theres 2 choices available:

-1) allow all member to chat on Teenage forum, however then wouldn't it be like a normal forum? so is it really needed?

-2) Close the forum completely.

I would go with number 2 in my opinion, however good it is to have a small communtiy fo younger member, at the end of the day most "teenagers" in the web industry have the mental age older than there real age.

I am only 17 yet I know PHP, CSS, Web Design, Graphic Design, Print and have owned multiple hosting and web design companys. So I have more knowledge of the web industry than some 45 year olds in this community.

So overall my vote is with number 2.

RJ!
Nice work, seems to some extent like what i had in mind :)

I wouldn't like if non-teens were able to participate in teen forum debates. that would destroy the idea a little. It would be great to gather ideas and skills from older members, but that we would just collect in the development discussions ect anyway. the teen zone is kind of a nice social place, where you might have a bit more in common.

I see where your coming from, do we need the teenage forum really though?

Naah. I wouldn't say that we need it, i would more say that i think a lot of people go by the forum once in a while to see how others are doing.

It wouldn't need to be a world class forum, where we have to get things going, just i nice place to socialise if you want. So nothing big.

What do you think sean?

Umm, I dunno.

There are so many forums already in the community and its starting to look cluttered, I think if people want to socialise they would use the Break Room as it has a larger audiance.

The only things that would go on the Teenage forum is things like success stories, there nothing really you can ask on a world wide scale that you wouldnt ask in the main forums.

Hahah, haha ha. You've "owned companys"? No, you've bought "xxdesigns" or "xxhosting" .com and claimed it to be a company.

a company is an institution created to conduct business, which is exactly what I did and have been doing for many years thank you very much.

Theres ALOT more to a company than buying a domain!

Well take it this way, if business (also called a firm or an enterprise) is a legally recognized organization and so is a company what can you call a situation where are you are selling products/services to an end-client as a full-time job?....a hobby?

Your just trying to be picky, This thread is here to try and improve the teenage community, I can see why people don't like to post here if they get backchatted by individuals like yourself, are you really helping improve this community?

....no, so can we get back to the topic at hand please.

What do you mean, "individuals like you"? Someone who isn't under the impression that they're anything but someone who is lucky enough to make money doing what they enjoy? I'm the same age as you and I also do freelance php work, run websites and have dabbled in business, but unlike you I'm not under the impression I'm anything special.

My problem with your statement was the "I'm better than everyone else" about it. So the hell what if you've ran companies before? It does not make you better than anyone else, arrogant teenagers piss me off. If you want to be taken seriously, have some humble pie.

Thank you Finnerup, and as a final note to say that I think I'm better than others in this community is far from true.

Please can we vote on the following plans of action, simple say a number and why...

1) We open the forum to all ages oif the community so that the old can teach the young.

2) Close the forum all together

3) Expand the forum into multiple errors that most "Teenagers" are involved in e.g. gaming, sports etc.

4) Something else, be creative!

My vote has got to be number 3 as a trial, if that doesnt work we try number 2, before finally closing the forum.

If you truly believe that what you said is true, regarding teenagers being often, or in some cases, better than 'adults' at developing and domaining, why should there be an entire section for teenagers? Teenagers don't need to be separated from the rest. To me, the whole idea of different forum sections for different age groups is stupid, it encourages segregation and discourages mingling.

Personally, I'd vote the entire place is removed, why should age matter, especially in such a diverse place as the internet? I know plenty of adults who enjoy sports and gaming more than me, but they don't get such a section, do they?

Agreed, however I think we should just test option 3 first to give the forum a chance, I think the idea was created to help Teenagers make friends with people of the same age, however is this really what we want?

Why should age matter? I'd rather have friends based upon whether or not I shared the same interests and abilities, than based upon them having a similar age to me. The whole notion, to me, is ridiculous. If I make friends with someone who's the same age as me, fine, but I don't seek out friends based upon age.

Agree!!! Age only starts to matter when you have a seperate Teen forum. Some poeple might feel more comftable talking with people their same age, and get where they come from.

I dont think this age deal would exist at all if we didn't have a seperate forum. There are advantages, but not that maney.

I say : lets make the teen forum into a gaming, free time ect. discussion board. but the name "Teen" needs to be removed, and all ages can participate.

Whos in ?

wow, now I like that idea, so it becomes more of an in-depth "Break Forum".

I really, really like that idea. I have pm'd NPQueen, lets see what she thinks.

I think we could develop maybe a "mini" teen domaining forum (within this one, of course) with different sections. I'm quite sure there are many domainers here who are teens yet who don't know about this section. Aditionally I think when people are signing up there has to be some sort of sign stating that teen domainers get access to a unique section.

Hopefully the next moderator (picked this upcoming tuesday i think!) will follow through.

ye, it is tuesday :) I have applied for multiple forums, I actually wouldn't mind getting this one, as long as RJ and NPQueen let me put a few of my plans in action.

I like how your thinking Alex, I have also thought about creating multiple "teen" type forums within the Teenager category.

Right, im off to bed, lol.

I don't think Sean is quite on the right lines for the teen zone; turning it rather in to a teen forum than a teen category on a domaining forum.

I shall put forth my "vision" for the teenzone before I was removed;
  • Firstly, open the forum up to those under 25 and rebrand as 'Young Domainers and Developers' or something similiar
  • Secondly, introduce a badge system (with optional turn off in a users profile) which would be displayed in the postbit
  • Thirdly, turn the Young Domainers and Developers in to a category, and introduce two subforums; Discussion/General Chat, and Marketplace. In this marketplace, people could sell domains to fellow teens, or offer services to young domainers, basically creating a better ethos about younger domainers.
That's the main points, pretty much. It's a shame I didn't get the chance to implement my ideas, but perhaps the new mod will.

Hi, It's nice to see Joe that even though your no longer a mod, that you want to help this forum.

I have said since day one that I really like your badge idea, this will help bring the younger community together.

I also liek your under 25 idea, before I was saying open it to all, but I never thought about limiting it to 25. This would open up the forum to ALOT more users.

I think your marketplace idea is good, however it would only work if its used for services, people won't want to post things for sale if they can get more views from the normal marketplace.

However I think the marketplace idea would brign ALOT more peopel to the forum that maybe currently dont even know about it.

thanks
Sean

What I meant by expanding the teen forum was expanding it as a domaining forum (rather than including sports and stuff..)

Something like a mini-forum-teen-domaining website (that's assuming we can get enough teens flowing in here).

Also, all of you teen domainers should join the group James created!

I agree with Joe. I think that we should move away from the 'teen' tag as well as the 'teen zone' forum which doesn't sound like anything respectable or anything that the majority of people would be interested in participating in.

ye, i much like the title "Young Domainers and Developers", this will not only allow us to open up the forum to under 25 instead of under 17, but it will make it sound less negitive (if you get me).
