Transferring a Mysql database ?

Could some one please tell me what the trick is to transfer a mysql database. I have no problem copying it, but I get errors when I try to install it ? what table info do I need to remove or add ? Whats the trick. Thanks !!

How large is the database? Do you have phpmyadmin, or some other sql gui, or shell access?

The problem is usually always size. There's a limit in mysql, I think it's about 1gb if I remember. What you'll need to do is go to phpAdmin, assuming you have access to cpanel. Then export it to your hard drive. Use a text editor to split it up into chunks then upload them up one by one. It can be a pain in the ass but it's the only way I know.

Also be sure you split the file at the end of lines not halfway through.

I've tried to sue file splitting utilities to split the file into equal bits but it ususally splits it in the wrong place. Anybody have any suggestions for a utility that will split in the right place?

I dont think the size is the problem its not that big of a database. And I do have a phpmyadmin type database. Its just me. I have never transfered one.

are you trying to move it from one webhost to another if you are they should be able to transfer it from the old server to the new one with no problem

No just moving it from one site to another, same server. I found the instructions to do it. :hehe:
