I'm going to transfer one of my domains from Godaddy to Namecheap and I have 2 subdomains created on this domain on my hosting account (ASmallOrange). I wonder if my websites on which I have these subdomains will continue to work even when the domain is transferred to Namecheap?

I think this should not be a problem as I have the subdomains set up on my ASmallOrange hosting account, not at the domain registrar, but I'm not 100% sure. If the DNS nameservers of my domain will not change, it should work, shouldn't it?

if you are using your hosting provider (or any third party) nameservers the only thing you'll need to check/edit after the transfer is complete is your nameservers are preserved and not reset to default Namecheap ones (that sometimes happens even if you check "Keep my current NS servers" box - i dont remember thou if Namecheap supports this option)

if you were using GD nameservers and are going to use Namecheap ones for your domain/subdomains to continue functioning as they were at Godaddy you'll need to replicate all DNS records you have at Godaddy in your Namecheap domain panel

go to GD domain management page -> DNS records, copy all rows of CNAME/A type (e.g. A subdomain.yourdomain.com <your hosting server IP address>) one by one into your favorite text editor, then after your domain arrives to Namecheap edit/create exact copies in your domain management panel

starred "*" records in a form of *.yourdomain.com should also be replicated if any

It all depends on where your DNS is hosted. Some registrars offer a free DNS service but it's only valid as long as the domain is registered with them. So even if the name servers are preserved during the transfer, they might very well stop responding. Since you are using the webhost DNS there is no change. You just have to make sure that the current name servers will be retained.

Personally I would use a third party DNS service that is not related to the registrar or webhost.
I run my own, it comes in handy when you want to update records for a lot of domains in bulk.
More flexibility... :)

Thank you both for your advice.

You can also add an A Record for the subdomain and point it to the correct IP address if you wanted the subdomains pointed to a different server than the main domain itself.
