Alternative for a real domain, there is a lot of subdomain providers out there. Now let me make clear that I prefer a real domain over a subdomain anytime, but I do like to find out all about the existing services just out of curiosity.
On a few services I had never received any usable feedback, such as
- expiry policy
- number of subdomains allowed per person
- ability to move it to own DNS to use it for email and further sublevels
- reliability
- quality of support...
A few ones:
www.ulimit.com (free, no expiries, no own DNS) ---> .fr.fm, .fr.st, .euro.st, .be.tf, ...
www.de.vu (free, not sure about own DNS or expiry) ---> .de.vu
www.de.ms (free) ---> .de.ms
www.joynic.com (free, no own DNS, has expiry rules) ---> .be.tt, .nl.tt, .de.tt, .uk.tt, .us.tt ...
www.de.pn (free) ---> .de.pn and more
www.co.nr (free, no ads, no own DNS) ---> .co.nr
www.nl.nu (1 euro per subdomain, no further info known) ---> .nl.nu
www.eu.org (free, able to use DNS, terrible support, not sure about expiry) ---> .eu.org
www.co.tv (free, not sure about more) ---> .co.tv
www.cjb.net (free, terrible ads, not sure about DNS or expiry) ---> .cjb.net
www.uni.cc (free, own DNS allowed, expiry rules exist) ---> .uni.cc
www.biz.ly (free, own DNS allowed, not sure about expiry) ---> .biz.ly
www.eu.kz (free) ---> .eu.kz
www.da.ru (free, own DNS possible, sometimes delete subdomains for no reason) ---> .da.ru
www.au.com (paid, own DNS should be allowed, not sure about expiry) ---> .au.com
www.hk.com (paid, own DNS should be OK, not sure of expiry) ---> .hk.com
www.go.cc (free) ---> .go.cc
www.ac.gs (free, not sure about own DNS or expiry) ---> .ac.gs and more
www.ie.nu (60 euro per year, own DNS obliged, no expiry) ---> .ie.nu
www.co.ni (60 GBP per year, own DNS allowed, no expiry) ---> .co.ni
www.centralnic.com (different prices, own DNS is OK, no expiry) ---> .us.com, .uk.com, .de.com, .eu.com, etc
Did anyone use any of the above to complete this?
Like I said, it's mainly out of interest. Apart from Ulimit.com I haven't used any of these, and I prefer real domains. I ask this purely for interest. The only really valuable ones are IMO .eu.com, .uk.com, .co.tv, .eu.org
