The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The hallway business sounds like a farce. IMO all they needed to do was rent another room and say to everyone who was interested in the remaining domains,we carry on in 1 hour. Sounds like a firesale to me. If it were me I and I was uphappy with the service provided I would go through the T&C's of the auction to see where I stood.

Well - that was an interesting read....soooo positive then so negative, speculation, assumptions, allegations, and kudos...I am sure confused.

Here are the facts folks - the reason 155 names sold out of 233 is because the list was extremely solid and scrutinized. We sold 67% of the names we went through....thats more than twice the great percentages from the last 3 events.

What did we not anticipate - a late start due to loss of power on projectors in the ball room. that was a conference service problem...which became our problem.

We did not anticipate such a high percentage of names selling which obviously take longer to close when there is that much bidding. we have been able to get through a list of 300 names in the last two events so that was unexpected as well.

We had a hard out of the room time of 6 PM which I personally begged for time extension and was given an extra 45 minutes. There was another planned event right after the auction sponsored by another company. The room was not rented...we were at a conference with a conference and session schedule that was back to back.

The hall auction was my mistake and was stopped immediately. only 6 names sold in the hall at or above reserve. Each seller will get contacted and let us know if they want to take the bid or put into the silent auction if they felt that was not fair. However, it was no different than having folks call out names in the room. Most of those domains would go at or close to reserve when that happens. Most sellers are also ok or even happy to get a sale.

Yes we learned that we need to make the list shorter and even more pristine which will result in fewer names in the live and more in the silent...maybe. that would mean that many of your names will not be considered for the live event.

All live auctions are subject to human error. Its live and we are all human. And yes we have learned so much from the first auction we created and it keep getting better and better...not worse.

Those of you with any sense will realize how good this auction (and the 5-10 others we will be doing over the next year), is for you, the value of your domains, the increased interest in our industry and investment in our industry. There were bankers, and investment companies, and VC's and private equity firms, as well as industry registries all present at this one. They all came up to us afterwards impressed as hell that we actually pulled this off yet once again.

So for all those disappointed that we did not get to your name or that your name was not sold, or not sold for a price that you thought...we really are doing our best at each of these. We are totally aligned with you as our customer and make more money when your names sell for more money. No one is screwing you or trying to. If you were asked to lower your reserve, it was for good reason. If we were that wrong then the domain would sell for that much more. This time, we were practically dead on what we thought each name would sell for and the reasons why.

Bare with us as we continue to improve the process and make it better for our whole industry. It will get better but there may be some adjustments along the way.

We are shooting for a live webcam or stream at the NYC event in June. The NYC auction is positioned to be great due to the publicity the event and the conference will receive.

All in all, I am happy as hell with the results given the challenges we faced. The silent auction will be rocking as they all will from this point forward.

For all those that want to participate in the next events - Casino Affiliate Auction in May, TRAFFIC in June, InterNext in August, TRAFFIC in October, WebmasterWorld in November and others, just email us. For those of you fed up with the process or if you do not want to participate, then do not. No one has or will force you to.

I certainly make note of all those who submit and then bitch when things don't go their way. that is not good for anyone. If you have constructive criticism, I am all ears, however, all those that just spap without the facts or even the experience to understand how to even put on one of these events........

We are psyched for the next events and we hope the majority of you are as well....as your domains just increased in value and became more salable whether you know it or not.

Hey, If I didn't care, I guess you would not see repeat auctions and responses from our team. we are obviously here for the long haul....always have been.

Try to rally behind the things that will make everyone win and successful and they will be. We do not come up with this stuff to have you all lose money...its to put a stake in the ground and make our industry even stronger.

All good here!

Silent auction updates ???

Would it be possible for someone with viewing access to the silent auctions to periodically post the status of the .mobi names with active bidding? It would be nice at least to have information on which of the 140 +/- dot mobis running in the silent auction are getting bids.

Once the live auction is finished today, I'm sure that many on these boards will be eager to get a feel for how the rest of the names are doing. Since almost all of the live auction .mobis are from the MTLD premium names stash, those of us with names relegated to the silent auction are especially curious.
(BTW mine are operas, tuxedos, and yearbook)

Thank you and best of luck to all.

LIVE action at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. WEST today - the RUNNING COMMENTARY thread

The rationale for this thread is fourfold:

1. Some of us do have day jobs that don't allow listening to webcasts

2. There can be a significant delay in the live web-radio feed, as evidenced in the last Traffic event

3. There are bound to be several NP members who would wish to provide running commentary while listening in - and the value thereof would be multiplied many times if it's all in one thread so people don't have to flip back and forth between screens

4. We will not clutter the rest of the forum with identically themed threads

The live auction is scheduled to start at 2:30 pm PST, which of course is 5:30 pm Eastern, 10:30 pm GMT and 11:30 pm CET (and no, I don't think this is an Anglo-Saxon conspiracy to reduce EU productivity tomorrow).

Who else is planning to be a citizen reporter today?
