Hi all, new to domaining here and couldn't find any specific answer around..
Let's say i found a good .com free to register, but the .net is already taken and the website is up and running.. is this a problem? Can i make profit out of that or is considered cybersquatting?
Thanks in advance!

I think it's ok as long as it's not trademarked. I have actually sold a hand-reg'd domain to the .net owner before. Not much but it was a quick flip.

Bloggers tend to settle on what they currently got. Try to target businesses/services.

if it's trademarked already, you can still use the name, but if you want to make a profit from the "trademarked names" make sure you're making different "niche/type of a web" from the trademarked one. as it is registered with different gtld, it'd be fine. correct me if i am wrong. excuse my english hehe.

As many others have said stay away from it if it is trademarked but I also suggest you put the domain keyword over at Zfbot.com and see how many other sites are using this keyword term in their domain. These are other potential people you can reach out to in order to sell the name.

You can also use trademark247.com to check if the name you're purchasing is trademarked. It's connected to the USPTO database and it has a nicer user interface than the USPTO's site.
