That is really a top domain name, and a top price paid for it.

It just sold for 1.2M recently which I called a steal at the time. That is one helluva flip.

it didn't go through the first time and Toys R Us was also the buyer

Correction : according to this blog post over DomainNameWire, the buyer in first auction was Faculty Lounge.

It does not surprise me that Toys R Us was the buyer. I can't think of many other Toy companies who would put up, or could put up $5M in this economy.

This was a very nice sale, as it was/is a great name, and it sold to an enduser in these economic times for what it did - $5.1M. (Wonder if it was 'plus 10%') This is good for domains and their value.

If you're refering to the recent auction a few weeks ago, the trustees declined the bids, so hence it was just re-auctioned, not flipped.

Honestly, this domain is worth more and if I had the pockets would have bid up to 10m.

Of course my pockets are only $1,000 deep so who am I kidding. But a great name. One of the best on the market - or should I say off the market now!

to an end user the price can be anything, just depends how badly they want the name...

we always chat around whats overpriced and whats sold cheaply from a domainers view but to a corporation that wants toys and realizes the generic value of things, its a name they wanted very badly... i mean were talking about "toys.com"... what an amazing name and imagine the type in traffic on this name and branding it out...

congrats toys r us-cant wait to see what they do with this...

Toys R Us now owns the top three toys domains

toys.com

toys.co.uk

etoys.com

To whoever put Toys.com up for auction instead of contacting Toys R' Us directly: What were you thinking???

In my view, this domain was destined to land in Toys R' Us's lap from the start. This acquisition should have taken place years ago.

Beautiful transaction.

i don't think many people realize that this was a bankrupcy auction

the company who owned etoys.com and toys.com amongst others were auctioning off their assets

judges, lawyers and courts were involved and all that good stuff

this wasnt just your typical auction

it was conducted via a conference call where there was about 5 or 6 total pre-qualified bidders

I wonder what the max bid Toys R Us was prepared to pay. I get the feeling they would have pretty much gone as high as needed.

Where does 5.1M put it on the list of all-time high sales. Anybody here know?

$5.1m isn't far off the cost of a new store, so really it was a no brainer, and in fact a bargain. Instead of a local location, they have the premier global location.
