You could quite easily do it with JavaScript, but not all mobile browsers have it.

Your best bet considering is probably a server-side language like CGI or PHP and simply display the output.

would this be the same as "java me" ?

i know javascript is used on many websites but i am a little confused about the differences between "java me" and javascript

nombre, Javascript is unrelated to Java(me). Javascript was developed by Mozilla, you can find a lot of beginners tutorials etc on google or http://pixel2life.com may be a good place to start.

However, Like dhscott your best method is to use a server side language such as PHP. Since mobile browsers are temperamental things as it is, it's definitely not wise to depend on their client abilities.

I'd say go with server-side such as PHP, and then you could use maybe GD to create fancier images, or, if you are feeling willing to learn then you can program in java for mobile phones, java midlet's I think they are called, these are downloadable and run on most phones.

Don't get me wrong, PHP is great but don't single it out as the BEST option. There are plenty more options, ASP.NET (Microsoft's Version of PHP you could say), Cold-Fusion (CFML), JSP...

I'm pretty sure if you're good with Java then you shouldn't have much trouble using JSP as it is essentially the server-side equivilant of Java, Sun Microsystems created it.

jh, are you kidding ? i've had a computer for 20 years and can't even figure out how to write apple script

no, i am just trying to figure out how to conceive of a system so i can spec somebody to write it, i'm not certain what direction to go

i have been spending some time at the java page and so i will think about jsp as well

i have about 100 mobis and would like to develop some of them for fun and i need the same basic programming for each which is some kind of input mechanism (like pulling a slot arm) and then i want a randomized result, it would be on people's phones and so i am trying to learn what kind of coding would do the best job ....i know that i will need to do graphic design as well

i guess i would compare with any of the downloadable phone gambling games that involve a randomized result except it won't be downloadable it will be just real-time (though i guess i could think about a downloadable setup as well...)

thanks a lot for your responses, they are very helpful
