Hey guys!

I am well versed in Turbo -c and Turbo-c++.... But both are ancient programming languages and i have used them only to develop basic 2-d games and nothing more!

I want to know what the latest version of c and C++ is and will the knowledge i gained from the earlier versions help me to develop programs ( as in softwares ) using the newer version??

Can someone point me in the right direction and let me know how i can start doing this??

And i would also like i know what other languages are essential for today's programmers?? I heard C++, Perl and python are pretty important!

Similarly, Which of the web-based programming languages are essential?? Like PHP etc.

It would be great if someone can help me out here!!

Thank you,

I think it wouldn't take you long to get used to .net and programming in c# or c++ for windows based programming.

As for web based you can still use .net for windows servers. PHP is a little different but there is an immense amount of free resources online from training to whole php scripts.

Sounds like you've been forced to stick with the good ol' CBSE syllabus (Turbo C++, yuck!). As a start, get a better IDE first. You can try out Bloodshed's Dev-C++ or even Microsoft's Visual C++ Express. It would be wise to learn WinAPI as it'd be like an extension of your old knowledge about C++.

Regarding web-languages, you can start with, if not already known, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, PHP, MySQL (You must have learnt this at school too!) and so on.

Whatever you're beginning with, it's gonna need a lot of patience, determination and time. :hehe:

i would like to say that the idea of programming is almost the same for most language..what i mean here is the flow.. once you get to know a flow for one language.. learning other programming language is not that hard to pick up..

my first language was Java... then during my 2nd year of Uni..we are force to use C and C++ ..its hard (that time) but i manage to get a hang out of it after 2 weeks +

now i am working as a part time programmer in a company..which use lots of VB and VBA, still there is a learning curve.. but manage to learn them ..pretty quick.. :)

Learn as you go ...dude(and one important fact is learn and use it..) if you learn only...then you will forget.

a famous quote --> LEARN and I will FORGET, Do and I will REMEMBER..

hope it helps.. ^^
