i am in shock :(

Hi there,

Last evening i watched "Expedition Alaska" on Dicovery Channel and i have to admit, i had a hard time sleeping...

I knew all along that the global warming is an ongoing issue for years, but after watching the show last night i have a feeling that it is already too late to fix what we have done :'(

One of the most impacting scenes for me was seeing the polar bears beeing on land(they are not supposed to, but the Sea Ice where they normally stay is already gone, having polar bears and grizzly bears mixing there species because of that)....and the outlook that polar bears are predicted to be gone by 2050 because of the climate change(i believe that will happen earlier)....or the alaskan tundra melting and releasing methan in counts of billion gallons a day...., turbo fast melting glaciers....and so on :(

And to be honest, all the shifting from the companies to "green" is alot of times just advertising(e.g, in one of the commercial breaks there was a chevy commercial about the Hybrid SUV, but in the fine print at the bottom it was saying "avg 21 MPG", that's a joke!)

Very, very disturbing....

Frank

Hi Frank, I used to be a big fan of Green Peace but I gave up.

We can`t save the World because the only way to do it would be to TERMINATE mankind.
Despite wars and letal diseases, we are increasing so fast and so much that in few hundred years there would be not enough water or food for everyone anyway.

We were 3 Billions in 1900 , we are now 6.5 Billions and we`ll be over 9 Billions in 2050.

Too much is too much, the World can`t handle 50 Billions of us.

This thread is screaming hardcore debate.

I personally think GW is a joke. But that is all I am going to say in this thread. I don't want to feed a fire. :D

I think the point when I realized that I am actually glad that I won't be around in the future is when I watched a movie about global warming etc. It dealt with some guy in the USA that was a spokesperson for some campaign..I think he wanted to run for president at one time. I cannot remember the movie now....in a way its to promote him, however the facts presented in the movie startled me and I just realised mankind is doomed.

I saw it, and it is VERY DISTURBING! :o :'(
And it's much MUCH worse than any of us care to admit, as well! :guilty:

Just my two sense.

Hi, it was AL Gore and he won a Nobel award for that.

He tried to become US President in 2000 but the americans choosed Bush and instead of environment, we got wars, oil prices rising from $20 to $117 a barrel, etc.

Alfred Nobel probably rolled in his grave when he found out Al Gore got his prize. What a joke...

Let's not have history repeat itself in 2008! :snaphappy:

Hi Lorenzo,

There will be no "9 Billions"...either regulated through "termination" = global warming or if there is still mankind than it will be regulated by some governement...(remainds me on the movie "soilent green", dunno if it was the same title here in the US...where the people at a certain age got processed into food, called "soilent green) :)

Cheers,

Frank

P.S: Jeff, it is not only GW, it is a worldwide problem :(

Oh, I agree.
The irreversible and compounding problems of Global Warming are not fully understood by the vast majority of Americans, however ... whether it be apathy, ignorance, greed, or denial, shame, or some combination therein. :imho:
Many of these traits - with respect to the topic - are present in the current Bush Administration as well, IMHO.

Just my two sense.

I seen parts of it. Personally - I think anyone that CAN'T see whats going on has their head in the Sand. I got into a little discussion about this elsewhere not too long ago and was shocked to see how many people have no clue whats going on in the "real" World. They need to Leave their Country Clubs occasionally IMO - and see the "real" World. Take a hike along what Should be a fresh water stream. Walk along a Salt Marsh if you can find one.

No one is saying you'll wake up tomorrow and the Earth will be flooded ... But things are changing drastically and there is nothing to blame it on except Mankind.

Some scientist say it's all one big cycle the Earth is in .... That this is all "normal" changes. Well - How in the hell would they know that ? Weather and tidal changes have only been recorded a short time (Especially compared to the age of this planet and how long mankind has been here).

Wasted Fresh Water is one of my latest Peeves as well.

Do some research on how much "Fresh" water the average household uses per day ... then look at your Water Bills ;)

http://www.tampagov.net/dept_water/information_resources/Saving_water/Water_use_calculator.asp

http://www.owasa.org/pages/WaterCalculator.html

It doesn't seem like much until you actually pay attention to it and add it up ;)
Several U.S. States were and still are in Serious Drought conditions ... Yet you see Some idiot worrying about winning "Yard of the Month" out running Sprinklers for pretty grass in those very states - Makes sense huh ?

People really need to start paying more attention to Mother Nature ...

We MUST have Trees , Salt Marshes , Swamps , etc ... Yet Developers still want to squeeze Every inch out of waterfront properties. Well keep it up - You can't breathe Carbon Dioxide or Monoxide , But keep it up.

Some more interesting stuff :

http://badorbit.wordpress.com/2007/03/27/algae-bioreactors-convert-co2-into-sustainable-biofuels/

Algae lives and thrives on Co2 - I just watched a show today where a Power plant in Arizona I believe is testing this stuff. And they aren't even discarding the Algae - It can be used for fuel and many other products such as plastics and even Foods and Medicines :tu:

Face it - Algae Rules !

Can you tell this is a subject I feel Strongly about ? :guilty:

Mark, i couldn't agree with you more....i need to check out your links, thanks

Even i am sure not to live past 2030, i feel like i have to do something...WE have to do something (but then it comes all back to what Jeff said allready) :(

Cheers,

Frank
We as the current generation owe this to our kids/dogs/animals/world.......

I know mother nature will be happy when we're all gone, we've f'cked up this planet beyond recognition and I'm sure we all agree when I say that this planet would be such a better place without us.

I love to quote Morpheus in "the matrix" movies where he refers to humans as a virus. We spread to all continents and hide outs, we infect and kill everything in our path before we move on to the next place.

The funny part is that we're too stupid to realize that we're only screwing ourselves.

We should be welcoming Global Warming...if it's as full of doom as liberals predict it should take care of population control for us. In the 70's they were worried about Global Cooling. In the 80's it was Nuclear Disaster. Heck in the 50's it was Alien Invasion.

Anyone remember this movie?
http://imdb.com/title/tt0079445/

Orson wells narrates "The Late Great Planet Earth".

http://youtube.com/results?search_query=The+Late+Great+Planet+Earth

Prophesy about the doom of our planet and species has been around since we could first talk. The bible itself contains one of the most horrific and first tellings of the end. The "science" that we rely on today will most likely be the fodder for future generations comedy. Global Warming -hahaha!!!

Last evening i watched "Expedition Alaska" on Dicovery Channel

So you watched something on TV that's for entertainment and commercial gain and you believe it?

Okay here are some ways that we could be saved.

1) There is a volcano eruption.... which puts dust particles in the air and which does not allow the sunlight to reach the earth properly... [Remember this was the reason of the last cold age or something]. This could cool it down a bit and it will again go back to normal as Hot + Cold = Normal.

2) There is not much petroleum left anyway. So all the humans can do is use it till some more years to come. After that they will stop the exhaustion of green house gases. But yes still the trees will be purifying the air at their normal rate and in some more years it will all become normal.

I only have this 2 theories from my side. Don't know if they are true or not. But my tiny brain only had this much knowledge about whole scenario so only this stuff came up in mind.

If life only was that easy. You know what a serious volcano eruption can lead to? I suggest you watch a program about super volcano's on national geographic, you will realize that your theory isn't going to work for a second.

labrocca - hundreds of years ago the level of pollution was nowhere near what it is today. Anyone who thinks that all the billion tons of chemicals and waste we dump into the ocean are going to blend in or disappear live in a dream bubble. The entire eco system is going haywire and the politicians aren't doing anything to improve our own situation. All they know is how to make empty promises.
