9.de
10.tv

In the real world, this is the more likely to be the correct list.

I still have some doubts about .net and .org .. personally, I wouldn't build a commercial site on a .org, and if the .com is taken, I'd rather go with .net . Obviously it depends on the use of the name itself.

I can say that everybody has a different top 10 but there are some facts that you can check by yourself at:

www.internetworldstats.com

Forget useless extensions as .fm but have a look on the emerging most populated countries such as :

.in INDIA
.com.br BRASIL
.pk PAKISTAN

Just look here for the pop.:

.com.br would've been a great extension if it wasnt for the $350+ registration fees.

I think predictions of where TLD's will be positioned in the future is like predicting the price of oil in 5yrs! The only thing for sure is that dot com is and always will be king!
Who would have predicted the demise of EU at it's launch just under 2yrs ago??

i dont think .eu is done. It still has great potential. If you are company doing business in europe and you want your customers to know that it is perfect. its easy to spell and pronounce. At the same time it would be best if your business is in Germany and you also have .de.
Same thing with .us - American are very patriotic and if they are a lil mor patriotic with their online businesses that are target on US people/businesess it will pick up.

I am not saying that .eu is done. I am making a general point that it is impossible to predict the future standings of most TLD's. With a European population of 725,000,000 many would have predicted that .eu would have done much better than it actually has.

totally agree. there are over 350 million internet users in eu and I also thought the domain name would do better.

Quite a few for various reasons - my personal problem with it was that the EU is made up of many different countries with different languages. Thus Domain.Eu may not mean alot in half the EU states.

Add on the fact quite a few EU member states dont really care that much for the EU and prefer to be proud of their nation... :)

.net will disappear, .com will resist the increasing power of ccTLDs till the internet will change totally and we will not use domains anymore, but this is not going to happen for at least another 10 years.

I don't see .net going away. .com is not under a threat, plenty of use in the US alone for both .net and .com until some major change renders extensions obsolete (as you mentioned).

I guess people have different philosophies about TLD. I too would like to see the real statistics. Initially I thought that .info was more valuable than .org but after reading this tread I will definitely pay more attention to .org domains. Thanks for sharing the info guys.

That could be true for non-US sites, but in the US, .com will not get wupped by .us or anything else other than a change that renders extensions obsolete (as you mentioned). I don't see .net going away.

well, it does make sense to have a .us , but unfortunately the big guys did not do a good job in handling the whole internet.

Its amazing how many people underestimate .CO.UK and its where alot of the money is.

For the first part I would say: -

1. .COM
2. .NET
3. .ORG (or 4th?)
4. .DE (or 3rd?)
5. .CO.UK
