Does anyone know if there is a software program that can delete the windows folder but leave the files intact? I have a file inside a folder that is inside another folder that is inside another folder, and so forth.

Moving files inside the "Windows" directory on a system can screw things up. You sure you want to do that?

What I Did

I would create a desktop folder to save my Word files, and then a separate folder to hold my pictures, and then a third folder to hold my other files. Then I would make a master folder to put these three folders in. Then, as time passed, the master folder got put inside other folders and so forth. Now I have folders full of files inside folders full of files, inside folders full of files, many times over. Now I just want to rip up the folders so I can see all the files separated and in a list.

If your PC were mine, I could do it. I have CYGWIN that allows me to command

mv word/*/*/*/*.* word/ (move all file in deepest folders to word folder)
rm -r word/*/*/* (remove all deepest folders)
.....

Until you get what you want. I don't think MS-DOS can do like this.

I don't think MS DOS can do command like this: copy abc/*/*/*.* abc/*.*,
but it can do copy abc/def/ghk/*.* abc/*.*

If it looks like infinite nesting of folders it could mean your FAT is corrupted. Time for a checkdisk ;)

bro thats a virus .. !! go to tools and then folder options .. if your folder options tab is not there, its a confirmation of a virus named brontok ... you've gotta have an antivirus, like NOD32, update it and then scan all your hard disk, if you format your drive, it will appear again.. so better remove it. for further help, PM me..

If you read homebuyers second post, its not a virus. Its just that as files and folders got moved, there are now tons of folders.

Right click the root folder, do a search for files named *.*, make sure you have the search subfolders option ticked.

You should now get a listing of all the files.

You can then press ctrl+a to select all of them.

If you drag the selection to a folder on the same drive, you will move all the files to that folder.

Hope that helps!
