I saw on GoDaddy how people were selling their domains for thousands of dollars! That is such a profit, it just amazes me how much you can make selling that kind of stuff.

Your thoughts?

If a domain sells for high dollars chances are it has traffic to make it worth purchasing.

Yup. That can be misleading. Like say one place is selling domain.com for $10 billion and you own domain.net , does that mean your domain is worth $7 billion?

Answer: no. Just because someone is selling a domain or anything else for that matter at a ridulous price, doesn't mean people are buying it.

There is a lot of speculation in this market. Yes, there is a potential to make some good money; however, it tends to be more work than what you think. Few people can make a living off of just domaining.

As an idividuals website I would agree but to a multi-million dollar company even $100,000 is chicken feed compared to what they spend on advertising.

i am on tdnam regularly last 2 months. very few domains sell for $500 and above... the percentage is very low...

Most domains go for under $100... I have seen great domains IMO go for less than $100. People do put ridiculous price tags on domains... like $ xxxxx for long names with hypens etc. but I didnt see any of these selling

That is kind of a bizarre point of view.
Considering that sex.com just sold for 12 million dollars and is worth every penny.

You have alot to learn about domains if you really beleive that...

i've seen many sales in the 10K and 20K range. Most of these names are bought for specific intentions,Corporations ect buy them.Alot of times,These sales have nothing to do with the amount of traffic the name has.They buyers are buying the name for thier company,corporation ect.They know a specific name will market thier corporation and they will make a nice return on thier name purchase.alot of people think they are going to register a DN for 7 bucks and sell it for thousands,This is simply not the case.And not a good way to enter the domain name industry either,Seeing dollar signs at the register is bad thing imo.

not to say this happens everday, but 90% of my domains are new registrations and I just closed on 2 of them for 1,000 and 1,500 so yes I just made 2,480. I do target certain business areas and know where to promote them to find these end users. Just saying it is possible to grab new domains for $8-$10 and sell them for $100-$2000 rather quickly, once again not everday occurance but it can be done.
