To USA domainers,

You are searching for a product domain.
.com, .net, and .org are all gone.
What would you buy out of these 2 domains?
.info or .us???

Thank You

If your goal is to actually sell a product, .us by a mile.

Obviously, .com or .net would be the best choices, but 'd rather have a commercial product on a ccTLD (which is topically neutral) than on a .org or .info.
The only thing I've ever encountered with use of .us isn't a lack of recognition, but rather people assuming it's some sort of 'government' site. This is clearly because of the .us history, but I have no problem using them- at all. I have this sneaking feeling that 10 years from now, I'm going to look back on today and wish that I had hammered all the money I spend on 5/10 or 6/10 .coms into 9/10 or 10/10 .us.

If your goal is to garbage-farm clicks, then it doesn't matter.

I am a big fan of dot us and feel that it's time is coming!

Well my opinion may be contrary to the above members but I believe .info to be far more popular and worthwhile. I have been collecting and working with .info for quite a while now and I have found great success with the extension. The low overhead also helps and the fact competition is low doesn't hurt the outlook.

Dot info I feel is one of those extensions that are very underestimated and therefore overlooked lots of times. As for the question at hand product name .info or .us......As of right now I'd have to vote for .info but I do agree with the above posters that there will be a time when .us does mean more but right now....... the .com control hasn't been relinquished.

So .info all the way ;)

I like .INFO for some keywords, but in general .US is better for product related domains. It is just a better fit.

both are good but if you are selling to us market then .us seems more logical.

Also depends on your target audience. If you are mainly a local business definitely go for .us

If you are just an informational site, or are catering to a more global audience, go for the .info

I think you would need/want to go with the dot US on this one.

Some very interesting comments here.
Thank you all.

I am glad I posted the question,
I really thought the voting would be a lot closer than it is.

Right now it is
.us - 11
.info - 2

I haven't paid enough attention to the .us sales as I should have.

Any more votes or comments?

Thank You.

It all depends on how well you are going to target the traffic and customers. It would be better if you go for a .us as branding can be done with that, and although it would target US customers than globally, the .info in my view can help in no branding, either locally or globally.

If you have forgot, .biz is another extension if you want to go for your business customer targeting, but for the question you asked, .us is a better choice.

If you want to go after the US market, go with a multi-word .Com or .Net.

Get both, see which gets more traffic, redirect the one with less traffic to the one with more

Unless it is actually an information site about a product that needs an information site, I would go with .us.

I think .us will become especially useful as .com becomes more international. I can go to hairtransplants.us and expect to find US hair transplant clinics. Hairtransplants.com might offer up all manner of Mexican or other locations.

I agree with most people here:

- Global audience: .info
-US audience: .us
-Business Global audience: .biz
-Business US audience: .us

I was scanning some dropped domain lists and I found 2 names that were available in dot us and dot info. 1 name is ideal for dot us, the other name is better suited for dot info.

Can you tell which extension is better for each name:

DiveSafety dot us or dot info
RomanticEscapes dot us or dot info

Both extensions have their merit and purpose, it is up to us to figure which extension to register based on each available name.

OK,

Before I do ANY research on them at all,
let me guess...

I would say "Dive Safety" would be appraised higher in the .info rather than the .us because it would be geared more towards being strictly an informational site.

"Romantic Escapes" would be appraised higher in the .us tld because of the business of Romantic Escapes vacation packages, etc. in the U.S. ???

Just a guess,

Well that is my opinion. LOL. I am pretty much only buying dot us at this time and I scan many dot us names every day. On any given drop day it is possible to register very strong keyword dot us domains but the problem is they don't fit the extension.
