Tips on buying domain names

I need some tips on what to look for when buying a domain name. Cant anyone drop any tips for me.

1. Choose a short name, Although you can register a name with up to 63 characters, you have to keep in mind that people need to be able to remember it, and easily type it into their browser. Try to register a short and easy name that your customers and visitors will associate with your Website.

2. Using your company name is usually the best idea. Try and avoid hyphens and special character names even if the name is long.

3. There are many different extensions available right now. For businesses, I would recommend a .com extension. It is the first extension that most people try when searching for a website. Also it is one of the most popular extensions.

4. Avoid Trademarked Names because you may land in trouble if the particular company to whom the trademark belongs takes a legal action on you. Also the trademark name may not be very useful to you and your business.

5. You can also register similar domain names with different extensions. If you have "yourname.com" you should register "yourname.net" too. You don’t need a separate web page for each of those names, several domains can point to the same website.

6. When you have selected a few available names, see what your friends and clients have to say . It is possible that a name that may make perfect sense to you but may be too hard for them to remember. You should take their opinions on your domain whether it is easy to remember and spell?

must be short, brandable, easy to remember, easy to spell, without hypens and numbers in it and must be a com (this is about perfect domain), also may not be somebodys trademark.

next will be the different extension..like .com is better then .net .net si better then .info

Find something popular, perhaps a band?

Then twist the words, mispell it, etc.

Forget dot COM. They are overvalued and nothing good is available
at a reasonable price. Buy dot US. They are undervalued by many
people and good keyword domains are available.
The value of a dot US name can be determined by overture,
and is worth about 0.05 times its overview rating.

when buying a name check the overture, it helps, also you might want to check the search results for it on yahoo! and google.also make sure its short, easy to remember and doesnt contain many hyphens
