I don't understand the question.
Shouldn't a president be chosen based on ability rather than gender?
I don't think it will ever be "time" for a particular gender or race to be president I think it will happen when the right person steps up to the plate.

The only correct answer.

We had one in the UK a couple of years back, most hated prime minister I can recall for a long while! Not to mention she stayed for 11 years!

Not to mention she was the Candidate for my little local area for over 30 years!! (about 100 square :gl: )

Loathed and Loved in equal proportion...

But in america, your only options are wife of a former president who slept with another woman, and C.Rice(is) who's very much Georgie's sidekick at the mo

Couple of years? It was 16 years ago she resigned. Good old Maggie Thatcher... :)

Definitely better than Blair IMO, she still screwed a few things up but at least she wasn't a lying, smarmy, smug, waste of air like Tony Blair is. :imho:

Bring on a female President I say. Not sure that Hillary & Rice are very good candidates though. :|

How about...

NPQueen for president!

:kickass:

(I am not spell checking this post...sorry)

I 99.9% agree with this statment. The only thing is that the states are set up on a 2 party system, as it is, it is very hard for anyone who is not bred by the democratic or republican side will not get the chance. If an alternate party is elected it would have to replace one of the current major parties.

The other thing to remember is that the majority of voters in the states are over the age of 37....there is a general theme presented that at that age range and older, people are less receptive to change. Seeing as the majority of people at this age have seen the same type of person voted into the presidental seat lends credince to the idea that they will stick to the same format as they have known, only accepting the choice of demcratic or republican.

We also have a very short attension span meaning that the general information we use to cast a vote is polls placed on the news of what others are voting for.

But that is only my opinion.
Thank you for your time.

It's time for a non-white non-female non-Christian homosexual woman to be elected. Politics in America is still a prejudice business, if you ask me. Which is quite funny since we consider ourselves "the land of the free". Other countries have elected female presidents, as well as atheist presidents, but no, not in America. :p

To be honest, some of the stuff in this thread is really disappointing to me. First off, claiming that "women are smarter than men" or vice versa, is simply ignorant.

Secondly, politics is only as predjudice as the people who vote there is nothing preventing any candidate from winning other than a lack of support. Voter turnout for the 2004 Presidential election was approximately 60% of the voting eligible public in the US. This is the first time the turnout hit above 60% since 1968. There is nothing forcing us to be stuck with a 2 party system in the US other than apathy. That being said, you have no way of knowing where that 40% of the population stands on the issues. When it comes down to it, the President should be someone who will look out for the best interests of the American populous in general. It shouldn't matter what that persons gender, race, or anything else is. It should simply be about doing what the majority of America wants them to do.

The "Anybody but Bush" catchphrase, is quite possibly the most retarded thing I've ever heard. First off, it didn't work the first time. Ya know, the time when there was a question about it. Second, do you REALLY believe that Bush is the worst option available? Not that I am saying he is the best, but really now, does anyone think about what is really being said by that statement before they use it? I don't claim to agree with everything Bush does, but I honestly think that he isn't even getting an intelligent attack against him. Slogan politics are played out, and probably one of the biggest contributions to voter apathy.

Well, partly, I asked because I wonder if a woman has a better chance of actually being nominated and winning now, compared to years back.

Personally I believe the choice should be made on factors other than gender but, politically speaking, I think the smart thing would be for both parties to field women candidates at this point. I'd be suprised if Hillary doesn't run (tho if I had to vote for a democrat it would be Gore).

If Hillary runs, I would expect the Republicans to counter with a woman as well.. unless they can get Powell to run ;)

I completely think that anyone, male or female can be a president depending on there background, ability, etc.

It really does not matter the gender, I think any woman with great capabilities can and will do great for America.

confuse me as well, I have to read very careful to understand the points here, as this topic is out of my sense of English, which normally only serve as working Language for me

so, it should not a clerical error or it is a clerical error?..as I know there is indeed some non-female-woman while they are homosexual woman ..

btw, I work for a Large US company, and in that company the 50% executive (VP or SVP) is woman...so, why not a woman? I like Condoleezza Rice from a foreigner view, but I heard she still single, if that is the case, a single women sometime easy to be emotional and lose control from psychology view, be careful if she need made a vital decision..

Does the gender actually amtter, if 2 candidates went out and had exaclty the same policies and were exactly the same apart from the gender... youd probably find that the woman woulod win as I get the feeling people think there needs to be a woman president...But thats positive discrimination and the gender shouldnt matter...the thing is there will never be 2 people with the same policies, you should vote for th epolicies and person you like more, not the gener

It was a mistake. I meant non-male.

My post was directed towards the false perception that most Americans are not prejudice. Honestly, if the best candidate was a Muslim, you think Americans would vote him/her in? There are still a lot of men who refuse to have a woman superior, too.
