Thoughts on Saddam Vedict...

I am just curious what your thoughts are on the Saddam Death Verdict. Do you feel the verdict will cause an increase in violence in Iraq? Or do you think the Iraqi people are happy with the verdict?

I personally think that the majority of Iraqi people are happy with the verdict.

IMHO, I believe that the people of Iraq would be happy with the decision, as they would've been when Saddam was first captured.

But, as I am not a citizen of Iraq, I obviously can't say for sure.

I would rather have him spend his life in jail than the death sentence perhaps.

Iraq is long past the Saddam era.
The violence in Iraq at the moment has nothing to do with Saddam and his life or death will have no effect on things.

When you think about it...death comes quick and you only suffer for a few seconds. On the other hand, if you spend the rest of your life in jail, you really suffer for the rest of your life. I guess it also depends on what kind of jail you put him in.

He wouldn't last too long in a U.S. jail. He'd either be raped, stabbed, or beaten to death.

I think it's might be the first step of the Iraqi people for their freedom.
I know there are some people in Iraq that support saddam and there are a lot that not and they are happy with this desiction.

Agreed...I am not a big proponent of the death penalty, but there are certain situations where it is the only reasonable punishment, and this is one of those cases.

:imho: I don't believe that any real Muslim would consider him a martyr. On the other hand, some extremists would say that anyone was a martyr if it were to their benefit to claim such a thing.

Hussein was a secular leader.
He hated the radical muslims and people like Osama Bin Laden.

Muslims will never see him as a martyr because he didn't believe it himself.

I think the jury made a wise choice with Saddam. I usually don't support the death penalty, but when someone kills thousands of innocent people, that's all you can do.

Is it just me or is it kinda sad that this icon, albeit monster, is going to be killed. Not that he doesn't deserve it but we've been told about him and how bad he is for so long, it's like the end of an era...

Anyway, I don't think the death penalty is a good idea. I much prefer prison for life and maybe they should do some of the things he did to others during his dictatorship too. Does he or does he not deserve at least a bit of torture? After all, he did it to so many people, IMHO if he's killed he got off lightly (and most likely a martyr to all these other terrorist nuts).

Let's send Jack Bauer over to Iraq, he'd sort Saddam out!
