The United States on Monday said it shared Turkish concerns about Kurdish separatist fighters in northern Iraq but urged Ankara not to take military action across its southern neighbor's borders.

"We are certainly concerned about the PKK and terrorist organizations," White House spokesman Tony Snow told reporters, referring to the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

"On the other hand it's also important, we think, to recognize the territorial sovereignty of Iraq," he said after Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Turkey had massed 140,000 troops in a possible prelude to a strike in Iraq.

If Turkey crosses the Iraqi border, it would certainly tend to cause more headaches for the US... and Iraq, of course!

Turkey has a big army. The threat alone should be enough to get the Iraqi army to help flush out the PKK fighters. Then again, I don't think they have the capability to do that themselves currently in Northern Iraq (The Kurdish Region).

You might find Turkey doing what Israel did last year in Lebanon, but not failing in it's mission due to the huge numbers involved ^.

It'd be more like an invasion and I guess THAT is what is scary.

EDIT: Here's a link to List of Countries by size of Armed Forces. I know Turkey was so high as I went to college with a Turkish lad who didn't want to do his National Service. (Compulsory Service in the Army unless you pay to get out of it).

If Turkey were to go into Iraq, It would be another Palestinian - Israel conflict, and last 100 years, Not to mention, Iran would join in, The whole middle east could end up in total chaos.

I think this would create more problems over there.
Only because Turkish people are Muslim & so are most/if not all of the middle east. This would create more hate on Turkey even though Turkey have a big army they could still go down pretty hard.

Hopefully the wars over soon :td: didn't anybody take the back eyed peas song in? "where is the love"
Black eyed peas song. :xf.love:

If we were big country as Usa, then we could be able to attack kurdish terrorists.
Yes we have a very big army, but we arent powerful about money and etc.
World justice is only for strong countries, and Usa have the power.
....
We have the same problem in Turkei as you have in Usa.
Many of American people see muslim people as potential terrorists.
And so we do. All the kurdish people are potential terrorist for us.

I dont know how many people Usa lost because of terrorism but we have lost 40000 people, and still losing...

I hope the war over soon,
We believe in the same GOD.
Where is the LOVE

The Middle East has always been a hot bed of trouble, conflict and wars. Many people should not be surprised to hear all the uprising regardless of the US being there or not. All the territorial pissing contests between Iran and Iraq, Palestine and Isreal. These conflicts go on for decades and centuries. Whether we stay or leave, the conflict will still remain.

The US just stirred the hornets nest and never got rid of the darn pests. Many of those such countries could and would benefit from a more democratic society. But that will never happen due to the already highly religious governments that are in place. Relgion and politics never mix. Just like Science and religion never have. They both can co exist, but never function as one. Seperation is the key. And it would take centuries to have those in the Middle East to realise this.

Turkey has already launched attacks against PKK in iraq, and it won't stop. Turkey is tired of the PKK, US keeps telling them to be patient, but US can barely control southern iraq + baghdad, so they cant effectively reign in the PKK. Iran too has launched attacked on PKK and it shares a co-operative interest with Turkey when it comes to dealing with kurdish separatists groups. Turkey will eventually crush the PKK when it gets very sick of them, and US won't be able to do much. No surprise. US has given turkey plentiful, technologically sound, lethal weapons. weapons are made to be used on people, and the PKK will be destroyed sooner or later.

We might as well build an enormous fence around Turkey, Syria, Iran & Iraq and look at it from the outside. We're not equipped (neither staffing wise or financially) to regulate an interference from Turkey and a possible involvement from Syria and Iran.
This war has been an insane task from the get go. Look at the books of history and how wars have been fought in this corner of the world. From the Turks all the way back to the "old Mesopotamian" times.
We need to close this "book", wrap up our operations and get out quicker than we got in. We have to face the consequences of our military and intelligence failure and accept the fact that we're leaving a country in total desolation and as so often open the check book to pay for reparation payments. \
Unless someone comes up with a master plan that works quickly and efficiently, which is an impossibility, we've exhausted our abilities.
