This is going to sound funny!!!

Just a quick question.
When you are considering reging a domain name what methods do you normally consider? See, I knew it would sound funny.
Now the obvious things are if you are going to develop or simply try to turn the name, but what I mean is how do you determine if it is initially worthy of the reg fee if you plan on selling the name alone??
I usually ask friends. And sometimes check overture and google.
But that's just what I do. I don't have a baseline in overture, just look.
Just wondering what some of the pro's do in this regard.

It really all depends on the situation for me, when I was somewhat greener a few months ago I registered eBayAddicts.com because the .net/org/us and co.uk were all registered but knew little of the possible value of that domain. I registered VistaThemes.com a few months ago because I thought it would become a very popular future search term, FairAmount.com because it’s a popular two word phrase and was still available. So it all depends, if I’m in search of a name for a particular reason or if I stumble upon one by accident.

If you do not focus on a specific field when you search ... what is your domain research method then? How did you find the names you mention?

1/ would be a casual WebSurfer would be looking for
2/ Targeted market

When I think of a name and if it's avil, I will check Archive.org
to see it's history. if any. then I will think of a slogan and then check
google to see if it's listed. I have never checked overture.
I have always made my money back from a domain name. thats
why I say research the name first then buy. unless of course its a really
good name. I never buy names on impulse.

i have been making efforts to understand things from a broader perspective. thanks all.
maybe i will have some domains developed soon and start getting feedback.
